Title: Pipes for 74 250s
Post by: ossaracer on September 04, 2007, 06:04:49 PM
I am looking for a nice stock pipe for 74 1/2 Red Tank 250.  Or is there anyone making pipes for these?  I only know of ACE pipes, and I tried it works good on a 400,  but looking for somehting different on the 250??  If anyone has a good 74.5 pipe that works with the big rear section reduced, Ill pay a good price.   Thanks!   Terry Gates

Terry,

I recently purchased a pipe for my 74 250 from jemco exhaust ($200). http://www.jemcoexhaust.com/ It does not look like the stock pipe  Silencer is attached with only 2 springs. Not sure how that will work. Mounting tabs are provided seperately. You have to weld on yourself, but allows for accurate mounting.

good luck,

Chuck

Hi Terry,

How's the new 400 treating you? Has it thrown you to the ground and stomped on you yet?

Try Kevin at Circle F and see what he has in the way of 250 pipes. His number is 713-467-1488. I think Michael Winter once said that Kevin was maybe going to start making a torque snake pipe to fit the older bikes. Kent bought one of Kevin's '78 snake pipes, (thanks to Michael for getting Kevin to build the snake pipes), and I made it fit a '74 model. It was a lot of work cutting, rewelding, and making brackets, but the bike runs great, so it was worth it.

Thnaks for the replies!! I'll check out Circle F and Jemco  both good builders I know.....didnt realize they made 250 pipes for Penton.   Gary, and usual you have a cool set-up with that pipe!

I LOVE the 400!!  The enduro flywheel and 36mm Bing carb make the power delivery more manageable.    It is FAST in any case!! way more than a 250!!   I think it will get me to the first turn on +50 well!!

I will run it as is for a while   then maybe see about going back to 38mm Bing later....
