Title: broken circlip

Any tips on removing what's left of a broken circlip inside the hub? Both ends with the pinch holes are broken off and it's the one that's deeper inside the hub. Nice hub/brake assembly I need to build another wheel. I had thought about trying to drill a tiny hole in it if there's enough sticking out and insert some strong wire to give it a pull?? Any thoughts? Thanks,

Is it possible to mount the hub on an engine lathe and machine it out ?? for you ,that be the best and safest way.  A bridgeport would work  just as well with the proper set up...
  Heres a cruder way. The snaprings not that wide and if you grind the ID thats left pertruding out into the wheel, then (this gets scary) with no coffee and beer and a real steady hand and a poweful light, use your pneumatic cut off wheel and grind a small portion of the clip out of the groove. This will weaken the clip hopefully enough to break the remainder of it out. It sounds like your clip is rusted and frozen pretty good in the groove unfortunately :(

If you have a stick or mig welder tack a small washer or nut to the ring if you can, you may need to drill the hub where the ring is to make room to do it, let the tack cool all the way. The tack does two things, gives a ring to pull with to work the ring out but the heat also helps break the bond between the ring and the hub.

Thanks guys. What's left of the ring still slides around the groove so it's not rusted to the hub. I may try to tack a washer on there. I'll let you all know how it goes!

Hey, I have a dental type tool that I use to pry stubborn circlips but you have to be careful. You can get it out of the groove enough to get a pair of needle nose on it. Hope that helps,TTP

Well, now that you mention it, it doesn't need to come out! It is in fact the outside ring opposite the brake so I can just work from the other side. Now that's what I call "thinkin' outside of the box!" Thanks again for all the input.
