Title: 175 Exhaust
Post by: Danny Poteet on December 26, 2007, 11:26:00 AM
Can anyone tell me if the exhaust from a 1972 175 Jackpiner will fit a 1976 175 Cross Country?

You should look for a 74 1/2 and later pipe, (up to 76 Cross Country of course). My 76 250 Cross Country and my 74 1/2 175 have exactly the same frame and mounts. Mike

Danny,
Does the 76 cross country use the cylinder with 6 or 7 fins? If its
a 6 fin cylinder the exhaust manifold is at a different angle and smaller diameter for a 72 pipe to fit. You can make it fit by changing the head pipe out for one the right size. you can do remounts on th pipe hanger brackets at the same time if thats needed also.
I have a 6 fin 175 cylinder on my engine and had to use the 72-75 pipe to clear the frame and cylinder head.
 hope this is some help,
John D.

The 76 Cross Country roller that I sold at Mid-Ohio had an original, albeit locked up, 7 fin engine. According to the chassis books, that was the only 175 in 76, and the 77 came out with the new 6 fin engine in the MC5. The chassis book for the 76 MC5 doesn't even list a 175 as an available engine size. Does anyone know for sure whether there was a 76 175 MC5, either 7 or 6 fins? Mike

Mike I am not sure how many 175 MC5's there were. I think that Dane rode one in the 76 ISDT. I think it was a 6 fin. A 250 pipe will work on a 76 7 fin 175,they use the same exhaust manifold. Later Gary

Thanks to everyone for your very valuable input.  Obviously, if anyone has a exhaust, that they would be willing to part with, that will fit my 7 fin head 175, please contact me.

Danny, I have put a 72 pipe on a 74 which is the same frame as yours I believe.  I cant remember what I had to do exactly but it wasnt to big a deal.  Email me at [email protected] and when I get a chance I will look her over again and it should come back to me.
