Post by: pvangel on December 31, 2007, 05:14:01 PM
Hi, I am new to this site and vintage Penton/KTM,I have done a couple of Bultaco's and am currently racing a 80 RM 125 in the ACRMX series in the north east. Looking for what I believe is a 77 MC6 175? Or any 77-80 175 mx to buy, I don't mind restoring it. This is a great site. Thanks in advance for any help,  Phil

Hi Phil and welcome to the Pentons Owners group web site! Sounds like your looking for a Penton with suspension,  Is Southwick that rough ?  or is Central village rougher...   either way have fun ! All my Pentons have 6" of travel front and rear combined ;)

Phil,
There was a 1980 175 KTM on eBay in the New York area that didn't sell recently that has a lot of potential. Not known whether he sold it off listing ot not. Mike

Hey Y'all, Happy New Year!!!! Mike is right, the 175GS  that didnt sell at auction would make a nice scoot. I talked with the guy and looked her over in some photos. It was too far for me to drive but close to our new friend Phil. I dont have the guys email anymore. Maybe one of us can get it but it was a few weeks ago. That stuff gets deleted in my box and on Ebay but I will look.
Actually got to ride my 125 today (65degrees) so take that Yanks. Ride ON 2008,TTP

You can click on the sellers eBay name on the ended listing, and then go to "contact member" on the left hand side of the page, and send him an email through eBay, and if he still has it for sale, chances are he will email you back. mike

Happy New Year everyone!!!!!!

I hope everyone has had a great holiday, and each of you have a great year riding.

I am (was) the owner of the 1980 175 GS on EBay.  I sold it last week to a guy up in Utica, NY who plans on using it for some enduros.  I have owned many bikes over the years, and looking back, I wish I didn't sell most of them.  This was also the case with this 175.  Though the reason to sell it was to be able to buy an almost new KTM 200, I had mixed feelings of selling another great bike.  Does anyone else feel that way?

Sorry Phil, you missed a good one, but keep looking, they are out there!

I have spent the last three seasons on Bultaco's and have won my division each year, I want to race in a class with some of my friends, wich is evo 200 so a pre 80 bike fits the bill... A also ride a 08 KTM 144 and like the brand. I saw a picture of a 77 175 and thought it was a great looking bike so that is what got me going.
Hugh's Bultaco is a great place and very supportive. Tim and Hugh are great ambasadors to the sport and all parts(and bikes) are complely available but I wanted to try something differnt.I have spent plenty of time on short travel bikes. This website seems to be the key to vintage KTM/Penton information although there seems to be some lost years from the end of penton(75-76?)to the mid to late 80's KTM's I enjoy being schooled in all vintage bikes and the knoledge on this site is tremendous.I continue on my search and appreciate all the help.

There was a 1978/early 79 175 KTM MX-6 for sale in very good original condition at the Mid-Ohio show this past summer. The seller may still have it available. I have his name and phone number at home which I can get later this week for you if you wish. I am working out of town until Thusday evening. I have a my 250 MX-6, that I like very much. They were actually produced in early 1979 and although they were almost identical to the 78 MC5's they have improved front fork compression valving over the 1978 models. Mike

Phil,
I called the owner of the 175 MX-6 that had it for sale at Mid-Ohio, and found out that he sold it shortly after the show to someone in Oklahoma. Sorry it didn't work out for you. Mike

Phil, see Ebay item # 190188787517 a 1979 175GS. Someone is looking out for you as this bike is up by you, again. These vintage/long travel 175's dont come along every day and not nearly as often as they have been since you posted. It looks like a decent scoot and I wouldn't mind having it in my garage. Buy it/ride it...bring it down and we will ride the Smokies,TTP
