Nashua New Hampshire is pretty close to my Connecticut home, I hope the bidding goes high so I am not tempted. With my current inventory I certainly have enough Penton's to keep me busy.

Oh you just HAD to throw that in, didn't ya....[}:)]

Looks like a great project bike..Works Performance shocks..is that modified shock mount or is that how they came in 1975?

How much does the 400 "vibrate"?  :)

From what I can see, the shock is mounted in the stock laid down position that started in 74 1/2. It appears to have the correct swingarm. The shocks can also be mounted in the upright position. mike

The Works performance shocks alone are worth a few bucks by them selves. I dunno what came  stock in 74, but I do know they weren't works performance shocks !!

My 74' 250 Penton was supplied with Koni's. I don't think Works Shocks were available until the late 70's early 80's. I remember it was the trick set up in 82 and I replaced the stock Olins on my Husky with Works Shocks.

I have a 74 1/2 175 Enduro model and sold a 74 1/2 250 that had Ceriani shocks. Non-rebuildable, I believe. Mike

Should have bought this one off craigs list. On there it was $800, on E bay it's up to almost $1200 with a couple of days to go. Hopefully someone here will snag it up.

Craigslist can be just like eBay:  sometimes good deals and sometimes not.  This week I missed getting two complete Bultaco Matadors, one running and one not, by about two hours.  Total price was $500.  Oh well :(

Hi all,
I restored a 74.5 400 last year so here's a few things I observed about this bike. The frame serial number indicates it is a late 1974 build and it appears this could be a one of the Penton "transitional" models with some features of both the 74 and 74.5 model bikes. The true 74.5 model bikes came with Sun wheels and the 200mm travel front forks with the raised ribs on the lower legs. This bike has does not have either of these but rather the older style forks and shouldered Akront wheels like you would see on the 74 model 250 and 400. The frame and swingarm are the 74.5 model type for sure with the laid down shock position. This bike also uses the cables to hold the tank on instead of the old style leather strap. The 74.5 model bikes should have come with the Marzocchi piggyback shocks. Overall a real nice project that I hope someone here on the POG site can take home.
