Title: Ace 400 pipes?
Post by: Big Mac on April 09, 2008, 05:53:02 PM
Anyone out there racing on a Mint 400 with a pipe from Andy at Ace? Wondering about performance and results vs. any other option that might exist.

His prices seem reasonable... but if I could get a 400 pipe made or modified to the Cranke spec pipe from back in the day for not a heckuva lot more, I'd be all over it.

Hi Jon, I do have a 75 Mint 400 with one of his early pipes. The silencer is a concentric cylinder, somewhere along the way he may have changed his design to a tapered silencer for reasons I don't know. But I am very pleased, the damm thing is a rocket! I may have some pics I can send you, lemmmee look-see, LT :D

Thanks Tom, a pic would be great. He explained the silencer set up, didn't sound bad.

In comparison to 250 pipes, I had heard and seen that the stock 400 pipe had a longer stinger and longer head pipe section--comes out of the head, turns, then horizontal for a ways before up and over--but Andy said his 400 pipe has same length headpipe and same sweep out of head and up-over as the 250, just larger diameter through the headpipe section.

I'd always thought the 250 and 400 pipes had essentially the same diameters. If the similarity between the two is nominal, I might just run with a 250 pipe instead. Have plenty of those.

Is Ace Pipes still around? Does anybody have a phone number or is there a website?   Thanks!
