Title: Wanted -- '81 KTM Brake Rod-Cable
Post by: Big Mac on June 29, 2008, 11:07:38 AM
Anyone have a usaeble rear brake rod/cable from an '81 250/420/495 they can part with?

This is the version that's a rod about 1/3 back, then cable until the threaded rear section, about 26" long, for the pressed-steel brake pedal. The earlier alloy brake pedal rod differs and won't work.

Thanks,

Jon,

They occasionally show up on eBay.  You should aslo ask on the site -

Be aware that the cables were differet on the 1981 models. The 125 & 250's were 600mm in length, while the 350, 420 & 495's were 655mm in length.

Thanks for the info Tony, didn't know the smaller bore '81s had shorter cables.

Larry, I was at Washougal Saturday for Evo-race day, where I busted the brake cable in practice. I went begging at the track's maintenance building and they were nice enough to set me up with a welder. I burned a rod connector nut on to the cable best I could and it held for the day.

You didn't come up for Sunday's vintage races? Turned out we got the 100 degree heat [xx(], while Sunday guys only got high humidity and 90 degrees or so.
