Title: Chrome rim refinishing questions
Post by: Mike Berrington on July 13, 2008, 02:41:13 PM
Sorry I posted this to the racing forum by accident first... (rushing to go to lunch [:p] )

Looking for sources on either plating or powder coating my somewhat rusty chrome rims. (1973 Jackpiner), Price will make the decision which way I go.

Who does decent work that can strip the old chrome, fill mild rust pits, leave the stamped name, and re-chrome?

Anyone have any luck with the "looks chrome" powder coating? Who did you use? How does it look?

Mike

You can buy new Radaelli rims for the same or less than recrhoming.  Contact Waldridge Motors from Canada, Radaelli still makes the rims and ships them.

I have had good luck with delivery of several sets of rims from Walridge Motors. That said, I had to wait about two months for delivery of the last set because they were out of stock on the 18" rears. They should be in stock now because I got mine about three weeks ago. The cost, with spokes, was $350 US.

I have seen the chrome powder coating on auto wheels. To me it didn't look as shiny as chrome. Also, I don't know how you would put a knobby tire on a powder coated wheel without chipping the coating.

Do the rims from Waldridge have the shoulder or are the standard flat shoudler rims?

I have my rims re-chromed at Quality Plating in Sterling, IL.  I think he does a very good job, usually around $90 per rim.
His name is Gary and the phone number is 815.626.5223.  Give him a call.
