Title: bing carb slide guide
Post by: Mike Horton on August 10, 2008, 07:50:40 PM
Just noticed while cleaning my carb that the slide guide is loose. It will come out of the carb body. This may be why the bike runs so irratic. How do I secure and seal the guide
Thanks Mike

Mike,

Way back in the late 60's, we used to do some work on the Bing carbs that were on the Huskys and we actually made replacement "guides".

Uncle Ted made a steel cylinder with a groove that fitted very snugly into the slide area and then we would use a punch to press the aluminum that held the guide in the side of the "tube".

I use JB weld on mine. It not only holds the guide in place but also seals a unnoticed air and dirt leak. You might want to set the slide in place to hold the guide piece aligned whilst the JB Weld sets. If the guide is still tight I just smear some silicone seal on the outside to seal it. Wildman
