Title: 68 rear shock question
Post by: rick deford on September 10, 2008, 11:08:53 PM
Hi guys,

Just finished rebuilding the rear shocks on my 68. I,m thinking I have something wrong in regards with the chain guard and shock. While tightening the shock, the shock body moved against the chain guard bracket. Not only is the shock rubbing against the chain guard bracket, I believe it is also forceing the lower shock eye away from the inside rubber bushing.
If anyone can share a picture, or, look at the pictures and tell me what I'm doing wrong it will be most helpful, again.

I have never seen the chain guard mounted to the shock bolt.
The chain guard was mounted to a tab on the swing arm.

Brother Ron,
Keep you head down and your ears open my friend.
We sent 50 crews your way for Rita. I know the CO. will help out if you folks have it bad.

Rick,
I went out and took a look at my bike and compared it to your pictures. It looks like you have the chainguard mounted correctly. I sent you a picture to compare. Hope this helps.

Rick  You have it correct.  Some of the 68's had the shock mount chain guard, then KTM went to the short bracket type like Doug mentioned.  I have had a few 68's with your set up.  Nice paint!  CIAO
