Title: MC-5 tank dating/identification
Post by: marsattacks on November 23, 2008, 04:59:37 PM
Greetings all.  I recently bought a 1978 MC-5 (with the white tank -- see other post) and it came with a spare tank.  Can one tell from the pictures or otherwise whether it is simply a 78 tank painted red or something different? It looks like it spent some time as an orange tank but I've read many times the odd stories of tanks/panels/etc. that were re-painted before delivery.

Also, the pipe below is not original to the bike and seller had no idea where it came from (got it from a prior, prior owner).  A big long shot but if you can identify it maybe I can get it to someone who could use it. Could be going to the scrap yard anyway.  It has a dodgy welded stinger and as you can see it is pretty well beat.

Many thanks for your consideration, John

Hey John,

I might have an interest in the pipe.  Could you email me at; [email protected]?

That's a good message here......don't scrap anything until you give someone else the chance to look at it.  One mans "junk" could be another mans treasure.[^]

Very good point Dan. The large dent in the center of the pipe is stock for carburetor clearance. Mike
