Got the pipe from Mike Winters, forks are 38 MM, I added a set of 81 KTM triple clamps for the straight bar mount. I had to replaced a lot of normal wear items, wheel bearings, brake shoes, sprockets/chain, petcocks, ect... Rebuilt the bing too

That is one of the pipes that Kevin at Circle F Racing in Texas made for 3 KTM/Pentons I took down for him to build prototype pipes for. I took a 1977 GS-6 250 Penton, a 1978 MC5 250 KTM, and a 1980 MC 250 KTM. Kevin is a nice guy, and quite a craftsman! Mike

Shaked down the Katoom today, corner's great, missed a few shifts, rear shocks are very bad, forks are ok, brakes What brakes??I like the power but with the big flywheel it doesn't come the pipe as quick as I'd like. I put in a good hour and 1/2 time on, I feel like it's fat on the bottom (maybe) but it pings under heavy loads. I didn't notice the pinging at first but by the 2nd session I was beating pretty hard it. I love to way the bike looks but I'm not sure if this bike will be competive with the 80/81 YZ/RM's in the GP expert. Has anyone tried a mikuni ? What's the best shock length ?

I'm picking up my old MC5 from my nephew in New Orleans the weekend before the SX race there at his Vinatge race he's putting on. Once i get it fully restored and ready to go you most certainely can take some laps on that bad boy and maybe we can even squeeze in a couple Vintage races as long as i can turn the wrenches on that bad boy like i did for Handy,Rhoten and the others!

I ran a Mikuni on my MC5/MX6 with the Circle F pipe that I sold you. It was great mid range and low end, but lacked a little on the top end compared to earlier engines, pre-78, and if I layed the bike down in the slippery stuff at the Reunion ride, it tended to flood, bu the floats were probably too high, since it dripped a little when on the kickstand. It never pinged even with more advance in the timing than what the specs called for. Have you checked your timing? The specs on the 78-79 250 is 2.0mm-2.1mm BTDC. I am going back to a Bing, if you are interested in the Mikuni. I have 2 of them, both of which were on 78-early 79 MC5/MX6 250's. Oops, I checked out in the shop and the one from my other MC5/MX6 is actually a Keihn carb. Mike
