Good meeting at the Headquarters....Ric Emmal's place.  Great history as Ric pulled out the article of the 1977 Baja 1000 where he finished 8th in the 125 class and gave up 3 places when someone had moved the ribbons on him.  Ric also had other articles on Mettco and Sachs powered bikes.  Great bikes and parts to look at while we were meeting.  Skip told us some stories of growing up in Amherst.
Bob Brizzee called in earlier in the day and was in Alabama and didn't make the meeting, but Ric has a new member of his Family...a 6 month old Doggie named Maggy.  She likes the garage.  Just a great time and good stories.

Thanks Ric.

I was wondering where all you guys were last night.
It was the annual family night POG meeting in beautiful Amherst, Ohio at KTM's headquarters. We had pizza too, along with all kinds of goodies. There was no need for "antifreeze" - KTM is still paying the gas company for heat and there were over 60 people in attendance providing warm company.
We started our meeting with the business of the POG (and there was no "monkey business" that I'm sure was going on at your meeting.
Pat Leimbach (John's sister) was on hand to entertain us with her stories about John and their brother Ted. Matt Weisman was the guest speaker and he gave a power point presentation on the history of Lorain, Ohio and the history of "boat" building, how it started, expanded, and ended.
It was a good time for all the POG members and their spouses that were there.
Oh yeah, Ted del Solar talked breifly about his riding the Colorado 500 this year and some of the people he met there.

Al,
We just felt that the Southwest needs its own show.  Talk about boat building we could have used a boat as it was getting deep.  Sounds like a good time for all.

Larry,
You have an open inviatation and you will probably end up with POG Racer of the Year for the Southwest....I still have to run this by The Trail Boss.  We are Proud of you accomplishments.

Ron,Actually when we got official results we were 7th-(i know, big Whoop!)one guy got D.Q.-ed if i remember right-but if not for the fateful wrong turn we would have been 3rd or 4th 125(woulda,coulda,shoulda).Anyway,as usual your visit was too short, but too long in between "meetings"/monkey business!Seriously,my brother-it's always a great time when you(and Skip)visit and i wish we could get together more often.
Al,That was a Serious meeting of our little Chapter with hardly any monkey business(a lot of dog business though).Maybe someday we'll make it out to one of the big meetings!
Larry,Anytime you(or any of the other POG "brothers") want to visit i have a spare room,a spare crf450,a spare Penton, spare cold ones, and lots of desert to show you.Just show up.You are welcome to come and stay anytime for as long as you want.
As far as last nite goes,as Malcolm would say with a big grin-"That was neat" !

Whenever we can, we try to have the monthly POG meetings outside the KTM headquarters (POG's clubhouse) to give our members a chance to be involved with our meetings.
THis is why we have our meeting once a year at the AMA museum in Columbus for our "Penton Day at the AMA".
Which is why we also hold our meeting each year on Saturday during the AMA Vintage Days event.
There has been talk in the past about having one of the POG meetings outside of Ohio. One of the possibilities was to have a road trip to the Dave Mungenast Museum in ST. Louis, MO. Having a Texas meeting would be interesting. We could fix up another "Cycleliner" and do a non-stop drive from Amherst, OH to Texas. [:p] Wouldn't it be exciting to do like they did back in the 70's ... with everyone taking turns driving? [:p] On second thought, we would have to keep J.P. away from the wheel.
