Title: Fork tube removal
Post by: Steve Minor on December 17, 2001, 08:11:09 AM
I'm assuming (I know that's dangerous) the fork tubes on my 77 400 GS6 have a taper.....should I remove them in an upwards direction or downwards?...(the fork legs are already removed)....Thanks, Steve

Steve, the only legs that I know about are earlier Ceriannis
(typo)
70 thru 74 are equipped with tapered tubes, my 75 175 and all my later bikes have straight tubes thru the upper triple tree clamp

Steve,
If the top of the fork tube is tapered ( has no pinch bolts in the upper tripple tree) the tubes will drop down , to be removed.

Thanks guys....Guess I was wrong to assume they were tapered.....in fact they are uniform...they were just stuck and seemed to be tapered. I'm glad to report that I have located, thru a fellow POG member, 2 non-rusty fork tubes that I will be installing after Xmas....

Thanks to all
and Happy Holidays
