Title: Penton/KTM 250 Motors
Post by: Tahitian_Red on December 15, 2008, 05:44:04 PM
I have a 1976 MC5 250 and was wondering which motors will work with this model?  I assumed that 1976-77 were almost indentical, but thought there was a change in 1978.  Will the 1974-75 lower ends and cylinders swap with the 1976-77?

Thanks for any help!

Jay,

Pretty much the 1973 to 1978 and early 1979 motors will fit but the 73 has some glitches to avoid.  The 78 has some weird blunt transfers but all will go in the chassis and work.

I recently bought a 250 MC -80 and the motor look exactly like the older ones to me except that the ignition cover is made of plastic instead the mag cover, which is said to fit though.

What would the difference be between my motor and a..say 1977?

This is not mine but I plan for it to look like this:
