Title: Pipe for 76-77 MC-5
Post by: Tahitian_Red on December 19, 2008, 06:36:11 PM
Does anyone sell an aftermarket pipe for the 1976-77 MC-5 250?  A lot of the photos I see of the factory bikes seem to have pipes that look more like the 78 pipes.  It would be great to have something similar to the 78 that would fit the 76. Thanks for your help!

Stock 78 79 pipes are the hot setup to run on the 76 - 77 MC5s but they are getting hard to find. I think Circle F makes a repop but I'm not sure.

Circle F pipes can be made to work on the 76-77 250 bikes, as will the 78-81 stock pipes. It requires modifiying the mount bracket, but either one will most likely require plugging the LH petcock fitting on the stock 76-77 MC5 tank, or using a 78 MC5 tank, or even a 74 HS tank, because the LH petcocks are farther forward on those tanks and clear the larger pipe section. Hey TR saw yourpost on OxVMX and as I'm not registered on that site I will give you my answer to your post about the 75 250. I have a 74 short travel 250, a 76 MC5 250 and a 76 GP frame 400. All of them are great bikes or have been as  I shall try and describe. The first bike i got was the 74 250. Its still a great bike to ride but its getting harder to ride it at mx due to the short travel. Grass track it is ok. the next bike I got was the MC5 and I loved riding it at the time as it was a genuine mx bike. Lately after riding an 81 250 I find that the feeling of the MC5 is I guess dated. My suspension on the MC5 needs some rectification at both ends. When I get this working to my satisfaction again the bike will hopefully back to my original estimation. The motors of these bikes feel different which in my opinion could be due to the differences in the pipes, the pistons I am using and maybe the deck heights. I have always felt that the MC5 was slightly more powerful but this could have been due to the weight differences of the two bikes. The 76 400 is a later aquisition and I really like the bike. I would love to try a 250 in the GP frame as you have bought. I think the frame is great frame but dated for our pre 78 class and just a little too heavy especially with the 400 engine for mx . Personally as I have I would keep both bikes but that can't always happen. Best of luck with the new mount, it looks a beauty.
Cheers Bill
