Title: Rear hub 1976 250 GS
Post by: tmc3c on January 10, 2009, 06:15:01 PM
I must be missing something but I can't see it! My backing plate hits the bolt heads that hold the rear sprocket on where the rear hub brace is attached. This is where my old backing plate snapped this last time. The bolts are by the book and I can't see where a spacer would help. Has anybody come across this? Thanks Guys!!

Hi Thomas,

I've seen a worn backing plate cause the same problem. Take a look at the steel insert that's in the center of the backing plate. Where it goes up against the bearing, make sure that the surface is not worn (it should be flat, with no grooves). I've had the same problem before, and I was able to fix it by putting a washer in between the backing plate and the bearing.
