After reading thru past posts I have come to the conclusion that I need to replace the crank seal on the ignition side of my bike. Somewhere I read some posts about a type of lubricant that is suposed to be used on these type of seals upon initial instalation. Now I can't find those posts. I have most of a complete gasket set for this 76 ktm 125 that was purchased by the previous owner of this bike from Al Buhner and it includes the crank seals. They don't have any type of lube on them. Can anyone recomend what should be used on these. I am also wondering if there is a particular type of sealent that one should use on the retaining flange where it meets the main case.
Thanks!

Well, according to Chicago Rawhide, the CR seals have a green coating which helps to seal the surface upon install, I thing Al B. has those seals etc... for a gasket sealant, you might try 3-Bond.

Lubricate the seal lips with light grease or oil. This provides initial lubrication to prevent wear. Your 2 cycle oil will work fine. If seal is coated with rubber on out side edge then lubricating the outside is sometimes recommened by seal manyfacturer's to prevent peelling off of coating. I usually don't do this unless I have had a particular problem with that brand of seal. I feel there is less chance of "blowing" as eal out of the housing if the outside is dry. Ted
I would go so far as to say that the best lube to use on those new crankseals is what ever 2 stroke oil you are using.. the reason is possible oil interaction. Some oils are just not compatable with one another. when ever I do a engine rebuild I will use my 2 stroke oil as I assemble anything that might come in contact fuel. Ie Main bears, seals, wrist pin and bearings etc.

I use GasGaCinch (sp) to lube my seals before pressing them into place. Lubes the seal then acts as a contact cement to hold them in place.CIAO
