Wanted / For Sale / Frame for 82' KTM 495
April 15, 2017, 12:33:55 AM
I need 82' mono shock frame.  I have everything but 82' frame.  I have an 83' frame all parts will fit on but would like to keep total 82' bike.

For sure on the 420 and 495.  Maybe even 79' genre.  I could be wrong about the compatibility on the 390 low end.  I will not be offended if corrected.  Actually I would be grateful.  So if anyone can tell me hard facts about the 390 low end compatibility with 495 that would be great!  Thanks Mike for your response.  I will shoot ya an email.

Penton Talk / Whatever happend to Big Rear tires?
May 07, 2004, 04:49:02 PM
Well yesterday was the first ride with the Interco Tera-Flex 140/80/18.  It barely fits on my XR 650R.  It performed great in the muck.  Problem is I get muck all over on the rare occasion that the tire spins.  Throws serious amounts of huge mud clumps.  It hooked up extremely well on soft and intermediate terrain.  Still have to try it out on hard pack.  I can't wait to put this tire on my KTM 495 MXC.

Penton Talk / Whatever happend to Big Rear tires?

Thanks Mike for the offer, but I picked two tires up yesterday.  I bought the 140/80/18 Tera-Flex from Interco.  I found a guy that had them in his garage New!  He had one mounted on his KTM 520 and he said they work great on everything.  I must say I am impressed because they are HUGE!!  Knobs are almost one full inch high!!  I put this tire next to an old dunlop 140/80/18 and the Tera-Flex makes the dunlop look like it should be on an 80cc bike... Not a KTM 495.  Well to be quite honest this tire may be to big.  I am gonna mount them on the 83' 495 MXC and my XR650R.  I will let ya know the results in the next month or so of riding and trialing this tire.
Thanks

I hate to bring up an old question... For my 83'KTM 495 thinking of puting a Interco tera-flex 140x80x18.  I hear it is a pretty good tire. Since this is the ultimate site for motorcross information I want your opinion of this tire.  I ride both Ohio clay/mud and WVa. hard pack.  Thanks...

Thanks a lot for the information.  All points noted however I will steer clear of the cheng schin and duro tires.  I will go with the 120/100X18.
Thanks again.

Penton Talk / 79 420 KTM
August 24, 2001, 10:23:15 AM
I have an 83' 495.  I wanted an original bore piston for it.  I had to send away to england for it.  I have heard that the piston is still available through KTM but I think it is one of those things you order and they never come in.  I have been to swap meets and have seen a couple pistons for the 420 but that was last year.  I have not had a chance to go to any yet this year.  Just gonna have to try everywhere but one will turn up someplace.  Don't leave any stone unturned... gets exciting when ya actually do find a part.

Penton Talk / 1984 KTM495 technical question
July 26, 2001, 02:45:30 PM
Computer has not been working properly so I am a bit late getting into this conversation.  I have the 83' 495 with twin plug head and twin wire motoplat.  I run two NGK 9s and they both fire brightly when turned over in the dim light.  These plugs screw into the top of the head at angles.  They are not straight on top.  Through trial it seems to me that with both plugs firing the engine has quicker response.  It is hard to tell because of the crazy acceleration that one feels anyway.  I am ready to have my 495 rebuilt botoom and top.  I have all the parts just need the best place to take the engine to.  I live near Akron Ohio and have been thinking of Holeshot.  Any other suggestions??
