Penton Talk / "D" motor blues
April 15, 2005, 11:44:08 PM
Thanks, everyone. Seems as though the choke circuit was not going all the way off. The jetting is getting closer, and I will avoid any major port changes. Just trying for a good running "D" motor, I cant wait!  Rick Nicholson

Thom, I've checked what you have mentioned. The bike has a newer mikuni, I've torn it apart   and cleaned it. Air cleaner is clean( I've also tried it with air cleaner off). Has a race pipe, though I have not checked the silencer to see if it is clogged or broken internally. I guess I still havent checked the carb choke system. Do you think a "B" motor jetting setup should at least be in the ball park for a "D" motor? As far as being offended, I have, as have others, left a shop rag in the carb before, and my best mechanic friend routinely askes me, when I ask him for help, "What did you worked on last." Thanks for the ideas. Rick Nicholson

Ron,your response is a reasonable one, I've nothing to respond to it except that every motor sports has a reckless driving/riding rule. Yes, stuff happens in racing, but if it becomes chronic or predictable then someones judgement may come into question. 'Nuff said from me. Rick Nicholson

35mm forks ARE legal for the 125 classic class in AHRMA. No reed valves or multicone pipes.
How to phrase this delicately, I know Tom is fast, because he keeps telling us. And knocking people down is something to be proud of? Rick Nicholson

Mike, I highly recommend that you attend an AHRMA race in Norcal this Spring. You will see Pentons and all manner of other vintage bikes. The upcoming race in Frogtown(Angles Camp) is especially picturesque. There is also a big race at Carnegie this Spring. Dates and directions are on the AHRMA website ahrma.org. Even if you aren't riding these will be a lot of fun to see. Rick Nicholson, Auburn, Ca.

Before bending aluminum you must anneal it so it will not snap off.  You can anneal by bringing the aluminum up to 700degrees F, or by coating the aluminum with acetylene soot and heating it enough to burn off the soot. The aluminum will retemper itself over the next couple of days. Good luck. Rick
