14" will be fine, even 14-1/4", makes the bike turn much better.

Larry, I have a pair of the Marzocchi shocks, big bodies with 10mm shafts if you are interested.

Shocks depend on style of frame, if you have the early frame, girlings would have been standard, possibly Koni's.  If you have the later frame with the option to lay the shocks down, gas Cerianni's or possibly the Marzocchi reservoir shock.s

The 74-1/2 bikes came with gas Ceriani's.

Carl, the way I do it is, I install the inner races on the crank with out shims and assemble the cases with no transmission installed.  I use a dial indicator on the end of the crank, get total axial float and adjust from there.  I've found this easier to do than trying to measure the width of crank, depth of outer bearing races etc.  Make sure you have the seal holder installed on the mag side when doing this. This works for me.

In 73, the right side would have a slotted exhaust heat shield, not the blue fiberglass.
