Paul.  Glad that you liked your video. Conrad and I had a blast putting it together. We talk on the phone every week or so anyhow and we were getting pretty tired of talking about arthritis and flat feet. This project gave us some new challenges to talk about.

If anybody out there needs help with Powerpoint just call Conrad. He's an expert by now.

Paul, I hope to hook up with you at Vintage Days this Year.

Dave

Conrad. Can you believe it. Your cousin forgot your 50th birthday. Thanks to Jake for reminding me.   Don't forget. You're only young once, but you can be immature for a lifetime.   Dave and Susan

Yes Hank. Those violins and basses were named after Conrad. Most people don't know that he is an accomplished bass player. I've heard that Al Born, Conrad and several other POG members play at the annual Christmas party every year.
Paul might have a couple of those custom stands for sale. They are probably pretty pricey considering the high price for scrap steel. We tried to move that one to take the photo, but decided to just take the photo where it was.    Dave

Penton Talk / Penton in the Alligator, 40 years later
February 16, 2008, 11:44:03 AM
We will be camping at the site of the Alligator Enduro during that week. We wanted to extend an invitation to any POG members who may be in Daytona for bike week to stop by and say hi.
Conrad has one of the POG banners and we will have it hanging at the campsite. We'll have a few bikes there. They always get lots of attention. I think the AMA breakfast is the same morning as the run, but stop by later in the afternoon for a cold one.  Dave

Wanted / For Sale / steeltank exhaust

I got a pipe for my steel tanker from Circle F Exhaust. I haven't tried it for fit yet, as the motor isn't in the frame, but it looks nice and fits the end cap and internal baffle that Al sells. I have two other pipes that they made for 1972 six days and they work fine.  If I remember correctly, the guy that you need to talk to there is Kevin.     Happy Easter everyone   Dave

Randy
Just received my copy that was picked up at the POG meeting for me.
Great job as usual. All of the photos are top notch. I like the action shots, but I think my fovorite is the one of Young Ted. Thanks to the lumberjacks that made that photo happen.

I used one of Al's repos on my "72" It works real nice. If I remember correctly, it comes with a fat washer that had to be ground down quite a bit on mine so I could get the cotter pin to go through.  Dave

Penton Talk / When did it change?
March 19, 2006, 10:29:58 AM
We were looking through some old photo albums last night, and came across some photos of us from an enduro marked with the date May of 72. The riding gear consisted of Linemans boots With tape around the top, blue jeans, a sweat shirt, Leather work gloves from the hardware store, open face helmut with a visor, and old army surplus goggles. From what I can see in the photos, almost everybody else had the same sort of attire as well. Found another photo from the Grove City Enduro marked July 1970. There's a guy on the line with a button down dress shirt on.
We were also laughing at our home made flat stock aluminum fenders, number plates that consisted of a piece of aluminum bent in a square shaped u and held on with the same bolts that held on the headlight, and the army surplus toolbags straped to the handlebars. All I can say is thank God for modern equipment.        Dave

Penton Talk / Thank you POG members
March 04, 2006, 12:00:45 AM
Paul. I gotta tell you that when I answered the phone last night, and the voice on the other end said that it was Jack Penton, my first thought was that you guys were playing a cruel joke. It took a few seconds to realize that it really was him on the phone.
Thanks Jack.     That was too cool.    I had a short conversation with John about his 1958 trip to the Aligator enduro, where he rode his bike to the Stone Mountain enduro and won, then rode to Daytona and won the Alligator, and then rode home. How incredable is that? Anyhow, Thanks again for all of your help. Looking forward to meeting you in person in Florida next week.  Dave

Paul  That's him.  I talked to him this evening, and know that he is looking forward to going to the meeting with you tomorrow.

This will be his first enduro, and he's real excited.  I havent entered one in over 30 years. The last one that I rode was the Musox Winter Enduro in 1972 put on by the O.V. Dirt Riders. So I'm just planning on taking it easy and trying to stay out of everyone's way.

I don't know Jack or Phil. I used to ride with a bunch of guys from the Crafton/Ingram area. Bill Clark was one of them. Thay called him Hot Dog. They were all much older than I was. I'm not sure why the drug me along with them, but I'm glad that they did. They were great times for me.

Looking forward to seeing you and all of the POG members at Mid Ohio in July

Paul   Thanks for the welcome reply. Ya, I'm originally from Pittsburgh. I'm not sure you can say I rode with Ron Bohn and that crew though. We rode in the same events, but they always won, and I was usually back in the pack somewhere. HA HA.    They would occasionally come over with the Pentons to ride the strip mines and power lines near our house. We would tag along whenever we could.  I bought my first new motorcycle from Ron back in 1969.   Dave

Is that the Hiro motor in the photo in the January 2007 calender? That's one good looking machine.

Hi all. My cousin and I have entered both of our our six days in the vintage class of the Alligator Enduro. Was wondering if any other POG members will be running it. I've been a POG member for eight months or so, but this is my first post. I do manage to read most of the posts every day, and want to thank everyone for all of the great info that we get from this site.
