Larry, does your swing arm still have the chain guard mounting tab and is it from 73'??  the chain guards were always slightly evolving in that time period.  email me. [email protected] peter

Vince, greetings, and thanks for offering a spare rim.
Listen, i found an Italian website called; MotocicliVeloci.it" I purchased a chrome, steel, shouldered Radaelli rim, model "Aimon Sport".  This rim is the exact dimensions as the Penton shouldered ,chrome rims of the 72-73' vintage.  if you want a pic of it, email me; [email protected].

The only difference is that the OEM rim does not have the "speed bumps" as the rims did in the 70s.

On the site, there are also other rim brands and also some relevant CEV tail light supplies.

Good luck,

the website for the OEM penton 72-73' bikes with the shouldered radaelli, chrome rims can be purchased for 80-85 euros on a credit card from; //www.motocicliveloci.it, an italian company.

just confirmed the width of the steel, radaelli, shouldered, chrome rims on pentons in 1972-3'.  they are measured in terms of width, of the iside of the rim where the side walls of the tire sit down into or no the rim.  it measures 1.60 inches or about 1 5/8" wide.  there is a supplier in Italy who reproduces the radaelli shouldered , chrome rim to dimensions, 36 spoke x 1.60" Aimon Sport model.  i'll get the name of the website for ordering as they also supply OEM CEV lighting supplies too.

Vince,  that 74', is that  18' rear wheel, a radaelli, steel chrome or akron rim?

Yes, i was referring to the metric width of the 72-73 radaelli steel, shouldered chrome rims used on pentons. My question is what is the "technical" width of these rims?? using a tape measure, they seem to be 2-2.50" wide.  would this mean the rim widths are 1.60, 1.85 or 2.00 is a metric measurement???

let me know,  thanks

PS: i'm building a 73' Berkshire penton which has a 302 stamped frame though it is not "high Breather".  those 72' frames left over were stamped and sold in early 73' but had the 73' swing arm,  VDO cable in the front wheel, 7" travel ceranis and with aluminum fenders, all original..very Kool.

Penton Talk / 24-27mm Bing needle seat installation
March 22, 2019, 07:16:34 PM
Larry, KJ Donavan,
Thanks for the info on the bings.

1.) The float needle seat: as Donavan mentioned, when replacing the flost needle seat, i don't need to dril out the side holes with a ball-bit dremel bit, apt 1/16".  I'll just install the seat with no drilling of the 3 side holes.  i wonder why the volume of fuel needed to come down in the carb to justify the side holes??  Is that just the way bing sells their carbs, 3 side holes drilled out?  Maybe the bigger displacement engines need more rapidly the fuel.

2.) The other source of seepage fuel leak from the bowl is that brass tube factored into the float bowl which can get a hair line crack, as Bing int'l Mr. Charlie told me yesterday.  Sure enough, my bowl seep leaked later when i tested it with 1/2 bowl of fuel (on the bench), it seeped into think paper over 1-2 hours...changed my bowl.

3.)the float needle seats do ware out. They get very champhored over time as i inspect 3 27mm bing carbs and saw the difference.

4.) About changing out a bing for a Mikuni:  more knowledge is needed in understanding the bing's functions and as Larry said, are "very performant" when maintained.  they have certain parts that "wear" and need to be replaced"......

I'll put in the new Bing seat and bowl change.

Thanks Guys,

peter klinck
