Penton Talk / KTM meeting in Hallein, Austria
May 28, 2009, 01:44:34 PM
For those who could not come to Hallein! There was something to see – the first KTM a R 125, Mecky Roller, Mirabell, Tourist, Trophy, KTM Comet Mopeds, 125 GS, X-Bow and a great photo show with never shown pictures. Some guests from the first time of KTM - Edi and Inge Kranawetvogel, Egon Dornauer, he won the first Gold medal for KTM at the Six Days 1956 in Garmisch! Manfred Magnus, Siegfried Stuhlberger and other Racers. Also Erika Trunkenpolz visited this meeting. Also seen designer Gerald Kiska! Kalman Cseh and Hubert Baum from KTM. From the KTM factory we had around 15 bikes for the show – many thanks. Maybe we have 2010 another meeting!A Little picture show on my homepage: http://members.aon.at/fhaglei1/page_9_1.html and http://members.aon.at/fhaglei1/page_9_2.html

Hallein is 15 Kilometers south of Salzburg. The show is only on 24.May to see the bikes! But I think if you are in the near you can see the photos. You can send me an email: hasnohorses2@aon.at when you are in the near . Better one day before. So I canshow you Salzburg if you want.

I stumbled across this photo and many more of this bike a few nights back looking at European enduro sites. Any ideas what components it uses? Looks like a custom frame, conical ft hub, but standard MC style gas tank, seat & swingarm. Way Cool!

I was talking with a member a few nights ago that said some of the other members here might get upset if we sway too far to the side of the Penton bikes on this site.

All of our Pentons were produced by the KTM factory in Austria (*), and I can say personally that I have interest in knowing about all the bikes that came from that factory and the same people that made our Pentons. To me it's interesting because they are all related in some respect, just like your post-vintage KTM's from '78 on...

I have no knowledge of this, but I'm going to guess at this point that the bikes labeled "Comets" were sort of another brand name made by KTM, not a model name.
My lame reasoning is this: Even though they had the "KTM" logo on the tank, the bikes called "Comets" came in different sizes (50's thru 125's), most were little street bikes (they call them scooters over there), but a few were competition Enduro bikes like the one pictured on the Home Page.

Here's a 1970 KTM Comet 50cc Super 4.
http://www.moped-museum.de/ktm/ktm-comet-50s-1970.htm

I've seen some other pictures of this model and parts of the frame are exactly like parts of our Steel Tankers frames.
I'm mostly babbling here looking for answers, please set me straight.

Q:Do you care?
Because Bill Smith has more very cool old pictures available to share.

Thanks, Bob
