Penton Talk / ISDT RR and Banquet
October 12, 2012, 11:26:12 PM
Dave,

I just wanted to give you a heads up. I've got a check coming your way for three banquet tickets. Sorry for the delay, but our plans for the ISDT RR just came together today. See you in a few weeks.

Penton Racing Talk / Rachel Gutish ISDE Womans Trophy Team
September 29, 2012, 12:18:57 AM
Just stumbled across this post Gary. From what I read, it sounds like Rachel houred out. Tell her to keep her head up. She's got a lot of years left to race. Her times were very respectable and weren't too far off of Mandi's pace either by the looks of it. Hope you are enjoying your time in Germany. Take care.

Penton Talk / 2012 ISDT Reunion Ride Info- Updated !!
September 24, 2012, 08:53:58 PM
Dave,

I don't know if you were at the ISDT RR last year, but Guy Cooper was there and he mentioned something about opening up his museum for folks the Friday before the 2012 ISDT RR. He might have even said something about riding at his place, too. Do you have any information on this? Just trying to plan for vacation days and whether or not I need to take that Friday off. Thanks for any insight you can offer.

Penton Talk / Beating the high cost of travel
December 29, 2011, 11:14:47 PM
There used to be a guy here in Minnesota that raced local district motocross. He had a Honda Goldwing with a hitch on it and he would pull his motocross bike to the races behind it on a little single rail trailer. I always thought that was a great (and economical) way to get to the races. It certainly made me do a double take the first time I saw it!

Penton Racing Talk / 2010 ISDE Day 6 cancelled
November 06, 2010, 12:36:32 PM
Thanks for the update Gary. I was wondering what was going on. I clicked on the "Start List" for Day 6 on the //www.isde-live.info/ website and it just simply said "Day 6 Cancelled."

This sort of thing is all too common at the ISDE in recent times. I know guys who have gone to several ISDE's and have never ridden a final moto. Even though it didn't count in the end, I feel fortunate that I got to experience the whole six days including the final moto the year I went. That year, they ran the first three or four motos (I was in moto 2) and then a protest over the safety of the course ensued and they ended up cancelling the rest of the motos and not counting the times for the ones which already ran. It actually was a good decision. The track was at a military base on the edge of town and it was super dusty. The start was a fifth gear straight-away and I couldn't see my front fender because of the dust. Pure insanity!!

Penton Talk / Location for the 2011 ISDTRR?
November 06, 2010, 12:22:33 PM
The rumors look to be confirmed. Some of the tentative 2011 AHRMA schedules are posted now. There's a link to them on the AHRMA homepage. Looks like we'll be heading back to Combs next year for the RR, October 29-30, 2011. I'm looking forward to it already.

I rode a national enduro in Rose City, MI back in the early nineties. That should be an excellent event as well. They have certainly have no shortage of trails around those parts.

Penton Racing Talk / Team Races
January 24, 2010, 03:59:10 PM
Some of the clubs here in Minnesota started promoting Team HS races a few years back. Last year we had three of them on our schedule. They are run as 3 hour non-points, for fun events and are a blast. Options are two riders/one bike switching riders every lap or a one rider/one bike "Ironman" broken into A,B, C ability levels.

At one of the events, after the three hour HS portion they take the top ten teams and/or Ironman out. After a short break, the top ten teams run a six lap MX (with teams switching riders after three laps and Ironman riding all six laps solo) and then a hillclimb (with each team member getting one try at the hill and Ironman two trys). The hill they use is impossible to make so it usually turns into a contest of who can ghost ride/launch their bike the furthest up the hill. This is when it helps to be riding your buddies bike and not yours!! They add up all the points from the three events to determine the overall winner. These races are some of the events I look forward to the most every year. Fun stuff and the clubs usually donate the proceeds to a local charity.

Penton Talk / Rider down

Gary,

Sorry to hear about your mishap. Enjoyed catching up with you at Marion. I guess this means you won't be at the Casey CC on your new KTM 125 in a few weeks? Anyways, heal up fast and I'll see you on the trail.

I've been thinking about getting a neck brace of some sort. I'd like to take a look at yours. I'll look you up Friday afternoon. Thanks for the offer.
