Penton Talk / 76 MC5 Weight

Modern Cycle is wrong, no way a stock MC5 was 208, 225 is much more realistic but I suspect even that is low.

Brian,

Are you saying an MC5 weighs twice as much as you? :D

That would be like me racing a 1200 Sportster around a track.

Joe,

I think you're right.  Maybe the "New Math" had the guys at Modern Cycle dazed and confused.  Although, the story makes it sound like they thought the bike was light compared to others in it's class.

Penton Talk / Lightening a '75 250MX

Thanks everyone!

I'm not trying to turn it into an Ossa Phantom, just seeing what are some of the heavy items I can replace to get it just under 220.

....Other items are: Titanium bolt replacement, trimming off excess threads of bolts, removing lock washers, using LOC-TITE, less fuel in the gas tank (you do not need a full tank to run a short motocross race), replacing steel rear axle spacers with aluminum, removing small brackets and tabs, et.al.  If you do not use the FMS position, the entire lower bracket can be removed.

Joe,

You said the "T" word.  I was afraid that's what it might take. LOL

Basically lighter wheels and bolts($) and removing excess frame metal are about my only option.  Thanks for the advice!

Penton Talk / Tank Strap "Fitment"
July 21, 2009, 06:35:25 PM
Tony,

It's a brand new reproduction tank strap from Al B.  I was thinking about trying to stretch it, but I didn't want to ruin it.  Thanks!

Penton Talk / Handlebar risers
July 07, 2009, 06:03:15 PM
Is it possible to drill out the top clamp mounts to 8mm?  I have some aftermarket risers that may work, but the use 8mm bolts.

I just heard the news myself.  :(

Oh well I sure hope we get at least one CC event out West next season.  I sure had fun at Taft.

Penton Talk / Where is it now??
May 13, 2009, 11:18:19 PM
Larry,

The Brad Lackey Vintage National weekend drew 300+ each day and I believe Chehalis has over 400 entries each year. Diamond Don's had 250+ entries each day, so AHRMA still draws at the big venues.

USVMX will have great turnouts in MO and at Washougal (should be 400+ P-V entries alone).

People still want to race with all the great orgs around the country when we can get past all the bull**** and ride our old bikes.

Penton Talk / Deadline AHRMA-AMA

Rob I. also has the distinction of bankrupting AHRMA twice; once when he owed it and once when we owned it.

Penton Talk / Mark Mederski Resigns from the AMHF

I think AMA should help maintain the Museum and fight for us in Congress and legislatures around the US, but what does any of that have to do with starting a Vintage racing series?

Penton Talk / AHRMA out at VMD
April 20, 2009, 06:04:08 PM
Larry,

I don't know how progressive AMA will be.  I've seen nothing from AMA that suggests kid's vintage racing, allowing bikes beyond 1984-85 or a national series or qualifiers for the VMD Blue Plate National Championship.  What do the Novices and Intermediates get?  A baby blue plate? Diddley squat?

The press release looks like smoke up the a** to me.

Thom,

I spent most of the week away from the Computer and it wasn't bad. ;)

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter Sunday!
