The upcoming POG meeting at Roeder's Racing and Service is about a mile out of Monroeville on US 20 West.
Plug it into your GPS and join fellow POG members for a great afternoon of bench racing as well as the regular monthly POG meeting and the chance to learn what it's like to throw a Harley into a Broad Slide at speeds in excess of 100 mph.
In addition POG is buying Dinner. A corn Roast with Pizza on the side. Rumor has it the corn will be roasted via an old Penton recipe and roasted by 'THE MASKED CORN ROASTER"  himself. Hope to see you their

Penton Talk / October POG Meeting
October 02, 2021, 08:28:27 AM
The George Roeder Memorial Pavilion is covered so in the event there is a rain threat no worries. You'll be nice and dry as you listen to the stories and gobble some mighty fine pizza.
In addition to George Roeder Jr. word has it another Grand National winner in the person of Al Gaskil will attend the meeting. Al raced against George Roeder Sr. on several occasions. That of course was in the era of NO BRAKES allowed on Dirt Trackers. Can you imagine what it was like to run down the straight away at the Springfield Mile at close to 150mph without brakes, and with George Roeder on your left and Bart Markel on your right with a corner getting closer and closer? Gaskil has been there and done that. Also The Racing Roaches, Toni and Gary are slated to attend and are bringing Toni's Penton Dirt Tracker with them.
Hope you'll be at tonight's meeting. 4:30 pm is the start time

Penton Talk / October POG Meeting
August 19, 2021, 11:18:39 AM
The Oct 2nd meeting will be one of the years best. Our host, George Roeder II, is a Dirt Track National Championship Race Winner as well as the son of Harley Factory Racer George Roeder. The showroom of his shop is a treasure chest of memorabilia. You'll hear from George what it's like to pitch a Harley sideways at over 150 mph, and broad slide through a corner with Scott Parker, Chris Carr, and Jay Springsteen bunched together in a space that could be covered with a blanket.
One of a kind race bikes, photos, memorabilia, and much more, PLUS ----- FREE PIZZA.
It's all going to be at the OCT. meeting.
Hope to see you there.

Penton Talk / October POG meeting - Saturday October 3
September 26, 2020, 03:54:57 PM
I'm certain ya'll know a little about George Roeder Sr. Known as the Flyin Farmer George was a member of the Harley Davidson race team who twice was runner up in the Natl. Championship Seeries losing the title once by a ssingle point. He also set the land speed trcord aboard a 250 Harley. George' s race machines , including the 250 strean liner are just a sample of what you'll see at the upcoming POG meeting at Roeders Racing Oct,3rd. Our host for this historic meeting is George Roeder Jr. George Jr. was an accomplished dirt tracker who was a threat to win where ever he raced with credits that include a win in the National Championship series. He's also the owner of Roeders Racing, and the curator of the on site Roeder Museum that features tons of vintage stuff from other famous racers. George is a wonderful source of dirt Track knowledge and stories.  If you like vintage, don't miss this one.
Sorry for the typos. Blame it on the doctor that whacked some Melanoma from the bridge of my nose and grafted new skin in its place that he g0t from my arm pit. Oh, one other thing. Have you ever wondered what it's like to do buck forty at the Springfield mile, sit upright, stick your leg out and turn left?
George will tell you, Hope you can make it.

November 26, 2013, 06:59:41 PM
Thanks everyone for the effort. Paul, the best enduro bike prior to the year 2000. Jackie might be interested in that for his Trailer Project. That's why I was looking for the Cycle World article and award.

Penton Talk / DAVE DUARTE UPDATE #4
August 18, 2013, 11:11:16 AM
Additional message from a good friend of Daves.

I have great news to report about Dave Duarte. His surgery went very well yesterday and he is off the ventilator. He is resting as comfortably as can be expected considering the extent of the surgeries! He was even able to talk a little bit today. All the prayers and good wishes have paid off. Thank goodness Dave is a fighter with a strong constitution! Please keep up all the good thoughts and prayers.

Don't remember the year but at one time the wooden soled clogs were part of the Hi Point line. I had several pairs one of which was covered with cowhide still with the cow hair (fur?)attached.

Don't know what happened to Mike's Bike. I do know the first race was indeed the Short Track at the Astrodome and I'm pretty sure (99.9%) Kenny was not involved as a sponsor.

Penton Talk / very interesting

Paul's info is correct. In fact most of the interviews are already in the can.
There is currently nothing in the works for the JP stuff. Todd has some ideas but nothing concrete.
He was going to be in the area and figured why not take advantage.

Penton Talk / WAUSEON
July 14, 2021, 09:22:37 AM
Any one attending the Vintage races at Wauseon OH. this weekend? Look for Racer/Promoter George Roeder Jr. and thank him for hosting A POG meeting last year. We might want to do it again this Fall and showing a little appreciation would most certainly aid a meeting request. Hope to see you at Wauseon.

Penton Talk / Frank Piasecki
March 06, 2018, 01:05:28 PM
Frank Piasecki, a long time friend of the Penton family, as well as the off road motorcycle community, passed away yesterday at the age of 92. Frank's passing was peaceful with his loving wife, and sons and other family members at his bed side.
Frank will be remembered for his outstanding riding skills, but more so for his devotion to helping others. His garage and towing service in Toledo was home to a multitude of off road racers. To off set the cost of racing Frank opened a Motorcycle shop in his garage selling CZ's and Ossa's.
God Speed Frank. We'll miss you.

Penton Talk / KATHIE TOWNE PASSES
October 24, 2015, 11:38:22 AM
Kathie Towne passed away October 22, 2015.
Kathie was a dear friend and will long be remembered.
POG members associated with Penton Dealerships will remember Kathie as the first employee of Penton Imports, transferring from Penton Brother Honda. She served Penton Imports as Johns personal secretary as well as office administrator.
Four months ago Kathie's husband Elmer Towne, former parts manager of Penton Imports, preceded Kathie in death. They both played huge roles at Penton Imports and were key to the companies success.
Rest in Peace Kathie. DiAnn and I will miss you and forever cherish your friendship.

Penton Talk / DAVE DUARTE UPDATE #5
November 26, 2013, 07:13:16 PM
Dave Duarte continues to improve. He has super corrective glasses that actually allow him to drive during daylight hours, and read menu's.  Eye sight will probably not get any better but Dave is fine with that. He pointed out to me he feels fortunate to be alive.  He says he notices overall improvement just about every day. He's facing one more operation the 16th of Dec. to remove a small spot of cancer from a Kidney. Doc. is optimistic and so is Dave.
