Penton Talk / Poor revving

Larry,

This might sound crazy but by any chance is your Mikuni slide in backwards? I rebuilt a motor for a friend and he was having the same issue! I was going crazy trying to figure out was wrong so I finally hopped in truck and went to him... after a couple minutes of tinkering it hit me... the groove was on the opposite side so when he would put the slide in he didn't notice it was backwards... put another slide in with the correct slot... Done! Runs like a champ!

Al,

I spoke with Tim Shephard and he will be there! The reason I'm telling you this is because he is good friends with Wally Wilson! He said that he would give him a call and talk to him about it..

Now I heard from Wally saying that no one has contacted Mark Hyde about it yet... so now Mark knows a little bit that came from Wally.

I'm hoping I can make it but doubtful...Travel Volleyball & Travel Softball with my oldest daughter and it's overlapping!

I just wanted to update you!

Brian,

If you can get Mark Hyde to ride most likely Wally Wilson would come along! He's part of that team as well. Wally has a pristine 82 430XC he can ride!

Let me know...

Tim,

Scott Price AKA: Reddog is a capable rider of winning! Scott & I are best buds...even have the same birthday!  I am the older brother. Scott & I grew apart as we both started new chapters in our lives and after 20+ years it's old vintage motorcycles and a group I started on Facebook.  The BEER Map group where anybody involved in the enduro scene can share pictures & stories from "Back In The Day" that reunited us..

Since then the dirt bike bug has bitten again... I rebuilt the motor in Scott's Husky which we have named "The Beast" Helping Scott with his restoration was a blast and the bike turned out great...  He has raced it 3 times this year and he thought he would try another enduro!  Well his results speak volume of his talent.  He said it was blast!

Thanks'for posting this about him.

Seeing Heather grow up before my eyes is like watching my own two little girls... I too am very proud of her! Staying in the industry her parents have been in all their lives is great testament to how us motorcycle enthusiast stick together.

Heather's father Wally Wilson is a great friend of mine and if you ever have time to talk with him just get him started on his Six Days experiences. He never gives himself the credit he deserves. Heather's mother Debbie grew up in the enduro scene as well. Debbie's mother & father  raced Southern Ohio enduro's!

Best of luck Heather! You will succeed.

Wanted / For Sale / Too Many Projects!! (SOLD)

Paul,

I have researched it and have been unable to find anything!

The only clue I have is my Uncle Jim Fogle has lived in Lancaster,Ohio for a long time and I found this bike there. Uncle Jim I believe had some support from Penton Imports in 1977 so it's possible this could be one of his since it has the shaved fins, Tech paint on the triple clamps and the small holes drilled in the head.

I just hope someone see's the possibility in this machine and brings it back to life.

Thank you for your insight.

Penton Talk / AMA looking for restoration submission.
November 23, 2015, 05:00:00 PM
The Associate Editor is Heather Wilson. Heather is the daughter of Wally & Debbie Wilson.

Wally is a multi-time ISDT/ISDE veteran and is the owner of Wheelsports in Reynoldsburg, Ohio

Heather did a feature on herself for the AMA at Vintage Days this year riding her first ever race on a vintage bike. I for one am very proud of her accomplishments and seeing her grow up right before my very eyes.  Heather has been doing a tremendous amount of work covering all type of motorcycle racing and special events for the AMA. You can read many of her articles using the online version of the magazine. You may recognize her also in many of the AMA "You Tube" videos.

I tried to get her to do this with her dad because I know he has a black case 175 Penton just waiting for someone to resurrect it. Then she could race it!

Penton Talk / Wayne National Forest riding questions
November 12, 2015, 10:51:30 AM
Paul,

You can just buy a weekend pass or a year pass at a local motorcycle dealership. It's not as strict as it appears to be. The WNF does patrol the area basically looking for anyone without a pass or riding on non-designated trails.

Be prepared if you go that these are maintained gravel trails...yes there are spots that will have some mud but for most of it it's really enduro trail turned into a fun trail system for all level of riders.

The trails are shared with ATV's, Bicycles and the loops are directional but you have to be careful because you will have locals riding different directions. It's definitely vintage friendly!

I hope this info helps.
