I'm in Iowa City also but the bike is in Burlington which is only an hour drive.  It will be a few weeks until my dad is in the state so that's when I'll get pictures and figure out what we're doing.  Since your in Iowa City you'll be the first to know.

Like a redish color. The tank looks similar to the one a guy had on here a few months back that was a 79 berkshire.  This tank is not near as cherry as that one though.

The bike is in southeast Iowa and it was my dads first "real"dirtbike. I'll try to get some pictures in a few weeks when I visit.  I found this site becasue I started to restore some of our other bikes and saw this is a rare jem. I even found the original metal fenders in mint condition that he had stored because when racing he had used plastic aftermarket fenders on it.Wether I restore or sell it as is would love a little history on vins around the same time so I know what I have.  If I read it right the v858 means it was the 858th made or something like that and then I don't know about the 5497348. Can anyone tell from that if it is a 68.  I also thought it was a 100cc but I'm not sure there either. When my dad gets back from Florida(snowbird)he says he can even find the title so that might give more answers also.

Wanted / For Sale / For Sale complete 68 Steel Tanker
September 23, 2010, 10:33:48 AM
I've tryed here before and ebay fell through so I'm giving this another shot.  I'm in Iowa City/Burlington Iowa and want to sell my dad's 68 Berkshire to a good home.  It is complete except the throtle cable and the engine is free. The tank and wheels are the only things that are in questionable shape.  I have pictures if somebody can tell me how to put them on here.  I want to get about 1000 for it.The vin is in one of my older posts if you want to search for it. It's perfect for a restore and I would do it myself if I could finish my other 2 bike projects.

I finally went to my dad's and got the bike out of the barn and washed up. This weekend I'll get some pictures but I wanted to get the word out.  It is complete except for the original throttle cable. The headlight, speedometer, and tailight are in good shape and it has the original metal fenders and aftermarket rubber fenders. The engine and frame look really good, the front forks are great including the chrome.  The down falls are the wheels are pretty rusty(need re chromed) although the spokes look good.  The gas tank is dented and probally has pinholes  in it. I dont have the seat foam but I do have the base and another seat that was rigged up for it.The frame and pipe has some surface rust but an easy restore. Let me know if your interested , the bike is in Burlington Iowa. Once I get the picks I'm going to put it on ebay if noone is interested here.

I have a bike I think is 1968 Birkshire vin are V858 and 5497348.  Anyone know much about this vins value or how rare it is.  It is complete and ran as of 10 years ago when it was but in the barn.Everything is in good condition except the tank would need a lot of work because of pinholes.  If there is interest I might part it out.
