Silly me! I bought the "Penton Folder" from Al Buehner and did check for the orange front headlight assembly ......but of course did not check properly his substancial listing, and yes (Thank you again!) I found the seat cover![:I]

so, more $ will be soon leaving my account!

Talking about USA purchased item, I got the Tank toll Bag that was my first query on your site...from the second Ebay listing, the guy was extremely quick to answer, good total price with the shipping and very helpful, pity he did have only one left...it could equaly been great on my Can-am...but at least I am thankfull for this brillant result!

and indeed, all of you that I will never meet except this temporaly KTM Penton connection, you are a great bunch of guys...in UK it's a bit more reserved and if one of you need some tips about SWM's (yes I know we are on a Penton site, not Italian mafia) but I have now 5 of those and that is my "cup of tea"! Nostalgia is a strange thing, but by now, you know my moto...one life, live it!

I booked my place in the next UK event, a 2 days Rally in Yorkshire, see my last year misery on //www.vindurouk.com ....look for vinduro 77 as my user name and "classic & modern cocktail" as topic.
so, next year on the 400 KTM, I will hopefully not try to hard and enjoy the company and finish the race... Huummm!?

I have emailed both sellers and await their answers...shipping should not be too expensive.

Regarding the old KTM, do anyone knows where to find the "old style seat cover" with KTM and in smaller writting PENTON  on the rear of the seat!

we have lots of sellers in UK & of course Austria & Germany, but that does not have Penton wording!
I may not get the PENTON decal for the tank...but the seat cover could be great and appropriate!

will let you know more about the tool bag and the 400 GS6 progress...

Garage is getting very cold, snow may reach us soon in south UK, but enthousiat is high to restore this beast and to hear the engine run accordingly!

First of all, thank you all for your contacts & replies

My little problem is without pictures...it is difficult to explain the situation with this bike!
OK, I try like this:
all the bike, meaning the aluminium tank, Marzocchi G1, leather strap, old type exhaust, all look like the one from ROB W exactly the same except the frame is from a year after???

And that the reason it had an orange frame, but as well orange tank & side panels.
I would not imagine an individual changing the frame (except if very much damaged, but again at what cost!?) so, would it be possible that an ISDE Team did have a proper late 1977 400 GS into a 78 frame?
Even the engine is stamped November 1976 on the left casing (Clock style)
I have contacted many enthusiasts in Austria but yet did not get any luck with my search...from where comes this motorcycle?
USA? Yeh! But my hubs are not black?? Germany or else? Maybe but no records of it

So, that is not the end of my world, I will take a decision in few weeks how to paint the beast, and even if it does not match all taste, I do like the 77 model, or maybe polish the tank?

Next week I will sign up for "You tube" (or else) to get my photos on the web as slide show and it may help.

For now, many thanks guys, and I am very confident of whatever will be the outcome, this bike will be special to me!

I am new to your website and just purchased 5 weeks ago a 400 GS6 1977/78
cannot attach any pictures!???

By the way, my bike comes from USA (been told!?), badly painted and badly maintained before and believed to be an ISDE one, with everything from 1977 except the frame been an early 1978 with the centre stand, is it possible?
Frame: 801 16208
Engine: 7-5505786

This KTM is now is pieces and will be repainted accordingnly with a grey frame, orange tank & side panels etc...
same as the beautiful one belonging to one of your member ROB W that I must thanks for inspiring me to restore my bike properly!

so, wanted ....very much wanted a tank tool bag as on his pictured bike.
any condition will do (may re-copy) but of course if usable and old...that would be a prefect addition to my Penton.

the KTM is my first ......for many years, I used to have a 125 GS 1979 Brand new, that was great, I was young and fit!
