Ok, so by the sounds of it the original bars are not stamped with a brand name. In that case KTM probably made them. What color where they?

I haven't had enough time to really get going on it yet. I sanded the Tank and side panels long enough to realize that they should clean up real nice and then sent them out to be polished. I don't think that there is any gas discoloration from the inside out at all. It looks as though the original plastic had some sort of clear coat on it which yellowed.
Of interest is the Pipe. Did You realize how much work somebody has done to it? The 1st section coming out of the cylinder is original and where the pipe runs vertical is to. But the whole section between is all hand made, all hand hammered with out even using a set of rollers to make cones !! The amount of work and craftsmanship is very apparent. Somebody must of Crushed this section right off the Bat and didn't want to wait for a replacement Pipe.
I found a Twin Wire Motoplat Coil in Italy and am waiting for it to arrive. I was able to find the part Number in the Parts books You provided. Its a Red Coil Black Wire one, in all the Pictures I have seen they are Red Red.
The Metzlers have the correct date codes ( 16th week 1981) so they must be original.
 Thanx again.

I just thought I would pass along that I purchased Tofriedel's KTM 495. If You ever want to buy a used Dirt Bike across the nation from somebody You don't know, Tony is the guy. I set up a U-Ship guy to go pick it up and Tony took over from there and handled all the logistics. The bike showed up as described and I have a restoration with all the hard stuff done for me. Best of all I have a rare open class bike to add to my collection. Thanx a bunch...
