Penton Talk / 1977 penton 400

Switched from a 400 Falta CZ in September 1977 to a MC5 Penton 400. Won my class in 1 month's time and ALWAYS holeshotted unless the petcock was off. There wasn't an open bike on the MX track I couldn't pull on a straight, and I wasn't that good of a rider. Once the Bing was jetted right, the big bike would start on the second kick. Great suspension, cornered on rails and whellied at any whim - I even trail rode it on off days. You will love those bikes. It took me years to finally find another but I did! Good luck to you.

Penton Talk / Now the chain drags on swingarm.....???

Hi Steve,
I replaced my stock Marz's with 14" S&W gas shocks "back in the day" to save some money (couldn't afford Fox Shox). It really messed up the geometry; so much, in fact, that I endoed 2 times giving me a hospital-bound concussion and a broken collarbone. Once I figured it out, the bike handled like it should. Just a word from the "not so wise"! Mine was a 77 MC5 400 as well.

Penton Talk / Penton 400 Countershaft Sproket

Thanks, Kip. I appreciate the help. I remember my 400 CZ came with 13,14 and 15 tooth sprockets. The 15 was probably good for 70 mph!

Penton Talk / Penton GS6 400 Head Bolts

Thanks a lot, Rocket. I raced a 1977 MC5 400 "back in the day" but I don't remember any allen bolts on the head. Maybe I had inhaled too much burned bean oil! I really appreciate your info.

Penton Talk / Penton 400 Countershaft Sproket

Anyone know what a 1976 Penton GS6 400 would have as a standard countershaft sprocket? The manual says 12 teeth but mine has 15. I think the previous owner was a cross country guy so that may explain. Thanks, folks!

Penton Talk / Penton GS6 400 Head Bolts

Head bolt question: On my 1977 GS6 400, there were no washers under the smaller allen head bolts when I removed the head, even though there looks like an area machined in the head for a washer. I am not the original owner, so I'm not sure what the bike has been through. Any help is most appreciated! Thanks.
