Penton Talk / Re: Is a 74.5 Mint 400 legal for vintage

Thanks Jerry,
I really needed that confirmation. now I need to find a core to restore or build one from parts.
I understand that a 75 400 frame is the same as a 74.5 Mint, with the exception of the chain guard brackets. and frame number. if so, could I use a 75 frame ?
thanks, Jaan

Whats your thoughts on the ahrma tech inspectors allowing me to race in the 74 and earlier class with myself having a 75 frame numbers ?

Penton Talk / Is a 74.5 Mint 400 legal for vintage
November 20, 2024, 05:00:26 PM
I want to get back into vintage ahrma racing .. I have raced  back in 1995 in the vintage class on a Penton 250.my last race was the Steve McQueen memorial in Eugene Oregon in 1974ish.
Now, Im thinking about building a 74.5 Mint 400 .. but first I need to find out if they are legal in the 74 and prior vintage class ?
Any input is very appreciated.

Thanks Dan for all the information. the last time I raced was back in 1995ish on a Penton 250 that I restored.
I did real well with it !
Now its time for me to get another Penton and to the track.
And if I going to build a Mint 400 I want it correct and legal for the 74 and prior vintage class!
I do need to get confirmation that a 74.5 Mint 400 is legal for the vintage class ?
I live in Oregon.
thanks, Jaan

I placed a wanted for a 74.5 Mint 400 ..
can anyone help me with the correct serial numbers for both the frame and the motor?
I have had a couple of guys who replied to my wanted but didn't know for sure if they have a regular 74 400
or a 74.5 Mint 400 ?
and a second question, is a 75 frame the same as a 74.5 Mint 400 (except for the serial number)
thanks again !!

Im wanting to get back into racing AHRMA and would love to have a Penton again .
I prefer a basket case, but will consider building it piece at a time.
also would consider a running bike, but that would depend on the price.
74 1/2 Mint 400.
