Thanks for the replies. Mike, I did contact Kip as you suggested and he hooked me up. Jake, thanks for the info. Carb is bolted up and runs. Now I just need to fine tune. Cold starting is hugely improved over Amal.

Thanks Rob. In the photo the KTM looks silver. If that is correct do you know if it was paint or raw magnesium?

Penton Talk / Seat Trim Screws
June 01, 2016, 03:56:45 PM
Mick, I recently recovered my seat that did not have trim. I purchased the trim from a POG member and the t-bolts were not long enough. From one of our hardware stores I purchased some small stainless bolts/screws to match the nuts from the t-bolts. 3 or 4 mm, I believe. I filed flat spots on opposing sides band thinned the heads until they slid into the extrusion.

Thanks to Dave and Diane for hosting a cool event. I was introduced to some really nice folks and a sweet collection of bikes. Dave truly bleeds bikes and Diane seems to truly enjoy everyone.

And the bonus I was not expecting was meeting the Pentons.

Linked are some photos I took.

Rich, I do not have any brochures or anything like that. I bought the repair and parts manual from Al Buehner at Pentonpartsusa.com. He is a great source for parts and knowledge. Others on this site know tons about the bikes and have offered up good info when I have had questions.

As for pictures, search for what have you done to your penton today and look for photos. Keith Meatyard has a few shots of a 72 on here as does John Iole, aka marsattacks.

Let me know if you are looking for anything in particular. I may have a photo as I took a bunch while working on mine.

Penton Talk / Latest POG newsletter #70
March 07, 2016, 12:14:46 PM
Received my copy and would like to thank everyone who contributes.

Enjoyed the article on member Cal Alexander. He has quite a nice stable of Pentons and is in an awesome and beautiful part of our great country to be able to ride them in. My buddies and I took a MC trip to Moab a few years ago. It would be quite an experience to grow up riding in areas like that years ago when they were less traveled.

I look forward to more details on a trip to Dave Sanders place as they develop.

Penton Talk / Newbie maintaining a 72 Jackpiner survivor

242, I am up the road a bit in Bloomington.

Attached are a few updated photos.

Not done but making progress. I have some red wing shocks on for now. I need to figure out what I want to do with shocks, but these will work for now. I think the BOGE are going to be too much work and for what I will end up having in them, I could get much better.

Things to do:

  • I have a tail light and tool bag rack I need to install
  • I may need a  new seat pan as this one is busted bad at both rear bracket attachment points
  • I am also trying to figure out what to do with a headlight
  • I need to find a tool bag. Al Buehners looks nice
  • I need to get my front brake stay back from plater
  • then I need to ride a little.
Cheers

Thanks for the replies. The knowledge and history available from this group is GREAT! I hope to make it to some POG event at some time.

Rob, the flap is currently mounted half above the fender and half below and in front of the back of the airbox. I will send a more detailed photo. Do you know if rebuild kits/parts are available for the shocks anywhere?

Should be posting more photos of additional progress this weekend as my maintenance/repair work is nearly complete.

Penton Talk / Newer KTM
February 03, 2016, 10:53:31 AM
I have an 05 250 EXC which is pretty similar to what you are looking at. The bike is a great off road bike. The XC is a little more to the Motocross side of the endure range, if that makes any sense. KTM talk.com would be a good resource for you. I may be able to provide you a wiring diagram if you would like to PM me.
