Jeff:  I have powerdynamo on my 74 harescrambler.  It is just super, cranks and runs flawlessly.  Ive had it in some pretty wet races and it performed as promised. Got it from Alan.  Easy install too.

Mickey, I plan to attend this years event. I raced my Harescrambler there last year and had a great time.  This year I plan to display it at the Penton exibit and ride my 500 Husky.  Hope to see you there.

We came up from Texas for the big 50th anniversary and were not disappointed.  Everything was first class.  The KTM tour was wonderful along with the personal interviews. The bikes on display, wow!! I actually got to put faces with some names.  Hats off to all the POG trustees, members and I'm sure numerous others who helped, it was absolutely exceptional.

A couple years back myself and two friends were riding the Calisburg enduro just outside of Gainsville Tx.  Behind and riding over our heads our lead guy Mark snagged a 90 degree to the left as I zipped right on past. The only thing between me and the tops of trees about 30' ahead was a lone sapling.  I reached out and grabbed it as my 450 KTM just disappeared over the edge and into the tree tops.  I remember thinking if I was gonna come off the bike or go right on over.  My friend Robert Hicks, just behind me and having watched the entire episode unfold said it was the funniest thing he had ever seen as I was just parallel to the ground hanging on to that tree. Remarkably the bike was sitting upright in a little creek bottom with the Rekluse just waiting to go.

Had the ignition go out on my 74 Harescramber once.  Had to push it about a mile through the woods.  I was amazed at how easily it rolled with the non o ring chain. Therefore I am a believer that the little engine will struggle less with the non o ring. I have a 530 on it currently but will go back with a 520 because of potential clearance issues with the clutch actuator.

Either top trans plug is nasty to get at, unless you pull the carb or min. rotate it a qtr turn. Also, something Ive just learned.  If the chain on your Hare Scrambler gets a smell to loose it will actually grind the top off your bearing cover which houses the clutch actuator. A direct result will be serous oil leak and a new $200.00 bearing cover.

242  Im going to show my age and ask what a slopper stopper is?  And is such still available?

It has a cork gasket that seems to be in good condition.  I'm not sure that I would know if it is vented properly.  Think I will see if Al has a new one to try. Im guessing that no one has put a newer style on theirs with a hose vent?

Congratulations on becoming a Penton owner. Al is a wealth of info and helped me with my 1974 Hare Scrambler.  If you are still stock ignition, I seriously recommend the Powerdynamo. My little Penton cranks on the first kick every time. I also installed Works Performance shocks.  Contact the company direct, they will ask you all kinds of questions and build you a custom tailored set. I also had my original pipe thermal plated, looks great and doesn't rust.  And don't forget the Preston Petty fenders.

I have a 74 1/2 Hare scrambler also.  I decided to take a sharp sculpting knife to the outside 1/8 inch or so of the most outside knobby.  Worked just fine, would take a serious look to even notice.

Paul:  I hope some of the POG members plan to attend the vintage motocross in Jefferson, Texas this April.  Diamond Don does a wonderful job of hosting racers from all across the country.  I plan to race my recently restored and autographed 74 1/2 Harescrambler at the cross country on Friday. Will also bring my 88 Husky Auto as well as a recently acquired "in need of love" 72 Hodaka for conversation purposes.
