Penton Talk / Help ID'ing my barn find?
December 09, 2017, 10:34:37 PM
I have seen the movie, it was fantastic.
While I am on old Penton guy, the Penton's have not been on my radar for decade's. I've been chasing and collecting early 70's Yamaha MX's and enduro's for 2 - 3 years. I just bought property (10 acres) and I'm building a Toy Barn for bikes and cars. My plan is to build an old guys MX track so my buddies and I can do a little riding.
That said, I have not heard of Ed Youngblood's book, I will get it!
Thanks!

Did they ever make a blue 250?
Is it possible to slide a 250 jug on a 175 motor?
I thought I had a survivor, looks like I might have a bastard....crap.
Does the info on the top/rear cylinder fin tell you anything?
Would pictures of anything specific help?

The numbers on the right side of the motor are 4-207539
There are 7 fins
The bore is 2.5'
The top fin has a 2 stamped in it, it also reads -
KTM 51/52 300 00500
Made in Austria

Doesn't make sense does it?

It has a blue tank, looks like a 175.
I got the head off, the piston is REAL stuck.
What is the bore on a 250 vs. 175?

Penton Talk / Cool ISDT video

GREAT video!
Those guys were amazingly tough!
As much as I love the old bikes, let's face it, compared to the new stuff those things were boat anchors with wheels and a motor.

Penton Talk / 1975 Jackpiner found me
December 06, 2017, 08:04:12 PM
I just sent Gary an email....Thanks!
I get a call from a guy I have not talked to in years, says he took a Penton in for payment on a welding job. He calls me to help ID the beast, says I'm the only guy he ever knew that had a Penton.
I ID the bike and he tells me ''HE'' wants to restore it. WHAT???
I figured he wanted to sell it to me, so I give him my Penton story and tell him that I'd like to buy the bike. I'm not sure if he was playing me or if he really was going to work on it himself...BUT!
Four days later it was mine!

Penton Talk / Bought 1973, 250 - - SWEEEET!!!
July 05, 2018, 09:58:50 PM
I drove 200 miles to meet Gary Ellis on the 4th of July.He sold me a 73, 250 that he restored. I had to share a few thoughts with you Penton guys concerning Gary and the bike I bought.......
The bike is AMAZING, looks great, runs GREAT ! ! !
As much as I was impressed with the bike, I was far more pleased to meet Gary. Super good guy, an absolute pleasure to deal with. His passion for the Penton motorcycles is quite inspiring.
My only regret is that I should have spent more time talking to him that 4th of July morning. I was in too big a hurry to get home.
  THANK YOU Gary!!!

The frame number is 54 410 78679
It appears to have had a headlight and tail light at one time.
But the wiring has been butchered.
Any info is appreciated.

Penton Talk / 1975 Jackpiner found me
December 06, 2017, 06:51:40 PM
I was not looking for one, but I just got a 1975 - 175.
I had a 72 or 73 back in the day, raced it plenty.
The bike I have has a stuck piston, no luck getting it free yet.
I'm in Elkhart Indiana. Any one know of a guy that's good at working on these motors?
Thanks, Glenn  574-596-7755
