Thanks Kevin, that seems so obvious now that you say that. I will check that and see.

Penton Talk / mainshaft bearing 76 250 MC5

Good morning or afternoon depending on where you live. I have a question on the big bearing behind the clutch basket and how far in or out it is supposed to be positioned. It has a circlip on the one side which will not allow it to come towards the clutch basket any farther. But when I had it all together the clutch basket was binding and scraping on the inside of the case behind it. I have the thrust washer behind the basket as it sits on the bearing but it seems that the bearing is too deep in the space where it fits. Is this possible when having the circlipped bearing? See pictures of bearing placement and then scruff damage to case.I am trying to load a pic to explain but not having any success. Thanks for your help.Maybe you can paste this link. Hi I am in need of a third/fifth gear piece for a 1976 MC5 250 transmission. The two basket case motors I bought both have the teeth broken off them.

Penton Talk / 1976 MC 5 Kickstart ratchet

Hello, I have been working on a 1976 Penton 250 for a couple years. Both engines were basket cases so I am slowly finding parts as I put one back together. The manual shows a thrust washer in between the kick shaft gear and rathcet gear on the kick start. When I took these motors down neither had them installed between these two gears.I assume there should be one but neither had it.Is it necessary and does anyone have a size for it if it is needed and material it is made from? Thanks so much.

Penton Talk / 1976 Mc 5 question

Hello all, it has been years since I have been on here mainly because I broke my back in 2003 so I have not had much to do with bikes at all. With that said I acquired what I think to be a 1976 Penton MC5 250 from a young friend of mine who passed away several years ago. He had two in baskets with a frame ,wheels ,forks and a couple engines in pieces which had set for many years. As modern bikes became his desire before he passed away unexpectedly, these bikes were stuffed on a shelf. I have picked the best of the cases, clutch covers , ignition cover , cylinder and head for my project but never got the rest of the parts he had.My frame number is 550-02123.  It came with a desert tank but I have purchased an MC5 tank I am working on now. One particular piece that seems the hardest to get is the little bearing for the bearing cup on the end of the new style clutch push piece. Alan Buehner is out of them and I have searched many bearing supply companies and have yet to find one. Does anyone have a source for these?
Thanks for your help
