Penton Talk / Motoplat Removal
November 04, 2003, 08:46:59 PM
I use a chain wrench which I wrap around the flywheel and "jam" the handle against the frame.  I got the chain wrench at Sears for $15. This keeps the flywheel from turning. Then a 1/2" drive xx mm socket with an 18" +/- breaker bar to remove the nut (reverse thread as you mentioned).  Then use the flywheel remover.  This has worked on both my KTM and Sachs motors.

Penton Talk / Jackpiner Speedometer Mount
August 29, 2003, 09:24:39 PM
Thanks, I found the parts in my Sachs stash, however the rubber mount has disinigrated.  Are they still available?  Also, how is the bezel removed from the speedo.  I can turn it but it doesn't spin off.

Wanted / For Sale / Penton/KTM/Husky garage sale

I'm also matching the colors on a '72 Jackpiner.  On my (stock) bike, the color of the tank and the side panels are different shades of blue.  Possibly due to (1) the parts have "aged" for quite a few years and/or (2) the tank is fiberglass and the side panels are metal with the blue painted over a yellow base.  Also would appreciate any paint codes.
Thanks,
Gary

Penton Talk / Jackpiner fork stem dissembly

Thanks Kip and Doug,  I did use PB Blaster, a propane torch and a pipe wrench.  It left a couple small marks, but I was able to easily file them out.

Penton Talk / Jackpiner Starting
July 28, 2002, 10:49:39 AM
Paul:
Occasionnally, I would have a problem starting the bike with the Mikuni.  I'm going to put it back on today and see what happens.  I was also thinking the motoplat might be the problem.  Although usually the problems like this are carb related.
Thanks,
Gary

Penton Talk / Jackpiner Starting
July 27, 2002, 09:37:33 PM
John:
The choke is a slide assembly that goes up and down with in the piston assembly.  To start I set the choke slightly on, tickle the carb until it is overflowing and then kick.  However, since this problem has started I have to bump start the bike.
Thanks,
Gary

Penton Talk / Jackpiner Choke Assembly
July 12, 2002, 10:49:17 PM
Thanks John:

I have the choke mounted on the left side.  In this position the lever is oriented toward the back of the bike when it is off.  Is this correct?  I'll add the rubber band.
