Wanted / For Sale / Re: Fork seal replacement
October 03, 2025, 04:55:07 PM
Dave,
Thank you for the detailed order of operation on fork seal replacement. I will use these instructions to get them replaced perhaps this Saturday. Interesting it is "two seals" per fork? One dust , one oil I think.
Looking forward to getting it back together. Thank you again, much appreciated.

Wanted / For Sale / Fork seal replacement
October 03, 2025, 05:40:26 AM
Interested in recommendation for " order of operation" referring to fork seal replacement. Can seals be seated first then slide tubes down through them or install tubes back into lower stanchions and slide seals over top of tubes and down into stanchion seats?
Appreciate any pearls of practice on this.
Ty,
Andrew
Ps mentioned Ted Guthrie recommendation for heat application around outside of stanchion to get o50 year old seals out and went back at it and worked like a charm! Ty Ted.

Penton Talk / Re: Race or not to race?

Thank you brother. After going to vintage MX race today and meeting nothing but very nice folks throughout the event I am definitely gonna give it a race or two next season. The POG folks were exceptionally helpful with my litany of questions and patient with my enthusiasm about being the owner of this very special Penton gifted to me by a dear friend that has since passed. Thank you again for all that response and encouragement.

Penton Talk / Re: What Did You Do To Your PENTON Today?
September 27, 2025, 06:34:57 PM
I just got back from Zoar Valley vintage motocross and while there met Ted Guthrie and friend at the POG tent. Great guys and walked away with plenty answers to questions I had regarding my 1973 ISDT 125. However, returned home and sort made a mess of fork seal I am trying to extract is original from 1973( see insert). I fabricated an extractor but one broke and other pulled past seal. Out of ideas. At this point only metal backing portion of seal exists. Ted recommended heat and tried that already. Out of ideas and don't want to damage aluminum tube it rests within. That's what I'm doing today on my Penton!

Penton Talk / Race or not to race?
August 02, 2025, 05:03:41 PM
Well, my 1973 ISDT is all original complete with Magura leather lever covers and other stock niceties and wondering if this should go down the track? I would love to go just once. I know I have me tinned this before but now that it is out again this summer the question has presented itself again. Thoughts, anyone

Penton Talk / Re: Is this in decent shape

All your posts are both edifying and solidifying my thoughts on restore Vs. Meticulously service, detail and gently ride/bring to gatherings. Everyone one who responded I want to thank so much. I sent a response to another Penton owner who appears to have set a bar on detail! Beautiful. I will take recommendations and enjoy getting cleaned up, ride ready and head out see how it feels.  I am honored to have been given opportunity to have this sentimental and  important piece of MX. history handed over to me!
Thank you, more to come as I attempt to get it cleaned up and going late spring then possibly off to vintage ride Soringville, NY  (zoar valley) this fall. That would be timeline goal for "go live".

Penton Talk / Re: Just completed 1973 125 Six Day

This looks fantastic. Really nice work. Will be looking at that a few hundred more times! I have a 1973 manufactured March of that year and hope to learn more about the brand and bike. I am vexed as whether to race/ ride a few times then attempt restore or just get busy and restore while all parts in working order. Recommendation from your own experiences with this project most certainly welcomed! Beautiful, heirloom quality restore!

Penton Talk / Is this in decent shape
February 08, 2025, 12:32:25 PM
I am blessed to have been bequeathed this beautiful piece of motocross history. I accidentally posted my background on this and being newbie in wrong spot and apologize. However, wanting to know what other 3nthusiasts feel about where this 1973 Penton is at as far as restore Vs. Ride? Appreciate any input. I will take care of it but want to be sure whether not should be actively ridden/ raced?

Hello to all, I want to preface this with sincere condolensces for members loss of spouse. Very sad for sure and maybhis grief be replaced with fond, loving memories.
I am new to site and looking forward to April weather so I can get busy on  my Penton 125. The bike has been in heated basement about 30 years and very good condition. I don't really know where to start with this. Is it likely I will need to empirically replace fork seals, carb gaskets, replace tires/ tubes before trying to run the bike. I have never dealt with bike that has been stored this long. The bike has tremendous sentimental value as it was my dear friend's who has since passed but intended to race it for him just once. Given the decent shape and completely original I'm not sure if I should just make it shiny and back into house?
Thoughts please and thank you. If I do decide to get it in thorough running condition I will certainly need some direction on where to find  maintenance instructions, parts and manual.
Thank you for taking time to read this.
