WOW.... Chris, I was going to jump on here and try to give away my '78 MC5 400 to you. However, it looks like you might be cleaning out the closet. Sweet ride bud... You've kept it clean.

Thomas,

It's good that you kept your comments about Texas to a minimum. Remember what I said I would do if you didn't...? I told ya I would have to come to South Carolina & ride all up and down those pretty green mountains...Heck I might even just buy up some land and move there. You guys need a Good Ole Texas boy out there? It's good to hear that you are making progress on your bike...although it is not going as well as you would like. I am stuck like a dung beatle under dinosaur poop. I am having a hard time rebuilding my carb. The float bowl is shot & the manufacturer no longer makes the same bowl...so what's a guy to do? besides that, everything is off the frame & soon to be powder coated (if I can just get my wife to give me some of my money back).

Talk at ya soon.

Penton Talk / Need Float Bowl for Lectron Carb
July 09, 2003, 09:53:57 AM
Dave,

I have tried to e-mail you, but have not gotten a reply back. I live just south of Houston, Texas. As of now, I believe the only thing I need is a float bowl w/ pins in the bottom for the float. Do you have one?

I may need more later, but I'm not sure.

Hmmmm...Powder coated? has any one else had this done? I am curious as to what color you had requested, and any special care instructions given to them!?!?

Thanks

Penton Talk / Back in the saddle again!

I took a look, and noticed the only thing that stands out between the two (besides the lighting) is the front forks. On the GS model they are stainless, and on the MC they are painted. Mine are also painted, but the only way I can ride it, legaly, is to add lighting. I don't think that this bike was at all kept in any kind of original condition, when it was given to me it actually had PENTON Decals. The guy said that they were always there, but he didn't have the title to prove it. So it will be KTM for me.

I agree with everyone here...GOOD JOB...Nice and Fresh!

The Wheels are a turnin !

One thing I would deffinately like to see added is a members area, where you may log into your own area to update and/or create a log, or story book of sorts displaying a restoration project, race, or any related experience to share.

Steve- I am trying to be as accurate as possible, but I think that this bike may have originally been an enduro version (maybe GS instead of MC). Anyway, I want to be able to take it out on the street, just back and forth to work some days (5 minutes each way).

Either way, the bikes are practically the same, and if you have any suggestions, please pour them on!

Larry,

In order to post a pic here on the message board, you must first have your pic somewhere out there in cyber land. then you add the following text ()
do this without the round brackets and you should be good to go. Or you can send the picture to me and I will do it for you.

O.K Mr Carmichael....Your making it sound like you've got beef with TEXAS...I hope you don't, or else I just might have to come on out to South Carolina and ride my bike all over a great big, pretty, green mountain; then go fishing!

Now, with that said...How are things?

Richard- The Rear fender is now in pieces. The plastics were old and dry, and when I went to remove them for restoration of the bike (about 40% into it) it cracked up...so I will be needing a new one. So that is about 40hp? good enough for such a light bike...I can't believe how light it is! Why don't they make bikes that light anymore?

Anyway...I need parts, so those of you who have them, drop me a line.

Thanks

Penton Talk / I want to be STREET LEGAL

Rob- I guess your reply was so good that it just hads to post twice! Thanks for the light, it does brighten a vision. I realy would like to get this bike looking similar to that of a Duke II. I think it would be great to ride out to a camp site for the weekend and enjoy the twisties! And originally I believe that it was set up for dual sport utility, but has since been stripped.

Rob- funny you remember all those graphics, I nearly forgott about them. see bellow for a new one!

Tom- I was told that not only will I turn heads (if I get the work done the way I want to) but I might give people whiplash!

Keeep the posts comming, I need ideas! Parts, accesories, performance enhancers (bike stearoids!)

Penton Talk / Determining the VALUE!!!
October 17, 2002, 01:07:19 PM
Man....it has been a long time since I've been on. The fam's doing great. my little girl is now 3months old and healthy as a horse. The reason I was thinking about value is so I could find out if I could ever (that means if ever) get back the money I put in. Seams as though I might be able to. Reciently removed the motor from the frame and am stripping it down to bare metal! slowely but surely I will get there. Realy want to ride this guy on the streat! Heard from a old vintage rider that the handle realy well in the twistie(for an enduro style anyway)............talk at ya soon!
