Penton Racing Talk / Penton 125 milling head
January 01, 2015, 11:11:29 AM
Hi guys, back in 1973 I traded in my 1972 125 for a 1973 125 and was amazed at the power difference. While riding it on Al King's land (the Penton dealer) his son Gordy commented that the piston was lightly hitting the head. When I pulled the head you could see the light marks on the head from the piston. If my memory is correct Gordy said that some of the base gaskets were too thin. You were supposed to bolt the cylinder down without the head and use a feeler gage to measure the distance from the top of the piston (at TDC) to the edge of the cylinder liner. This measurement was then used to determine the thickness of the base gasket. For the life of me I cannot remember what the distance was supposed to be. Does anyone recall this or have the cobwebs in my brain finally taken over?

Thanks Cal, I found a NOS VM28 Mikuni for under $100 that appears to physically match up fairly close and am going to give that a shot.

Wanted / For Sale / MOTOPLAT repair suggestion?
August 14, 2002, 01:24:14 PM
This is a piece of cake! There is a triangular "fin" that projects on the outside perimiter of the motoplat unit. The diode lives in here. Simply use a wire cutters to break the resin away and expose the diode. You can pick up a 1000 piv / 1 amp general purpose diode from Radio Shack, cut the (2) wires from the old diode (note the Cathode orientation, white stripe on one end)and solder in the new one. Use 2 part epoxy to encase the new diode, replace the flywheel, check the timing and go riding. In the 70's I fixed countless units with this problem (Very weak spark)

I'm finishing the frame up resto of my 1973 125 and need a good Bing carb or a carb body as mine is badly worn. Has anyone replaced the Bing with a Mikuni? Any details / information would be appreciated. I could also use a good air box if anyone has one. Thanks!

I have a 1975 250 and need fresh White Preston Petty Mudder front and rear fenders. The rear is the IT (Integral Tailight) type.
Or, if anyone has a good lens to fit I would gladly buy it.
