Penton Talk / ISDT 4 minute tire changes
June 04, 2003, 09:26:35 PM
The sort of young guys do it fast as well. I was pitted last year next to Fred Hoess and Team Husky at one of the ISDE Qualifier. Fred does two tires, front and rear brake pads, and a fresh air filter in under 11 minutes on a regular basis. No clue how fast if he is in a hurry:)

Penton Talk / 72 alloy rear fender size?
February 09, 2003, 05:36:30 PM
I thought the 73' was the first year of the plastic fenders???? Is this true or did they have metal fenders as well. I have a Berkshire with frame numbers stating it was built in Dec. 72 which I would assume means it is a 73' model and I wanted to find the plastic fenders for it. Anyone have a clue as to what the brand was of the plastic fenders? I have a pretty clean set of white Preston Petty's on it now that look like they have been on the bike a long time.

Just trying to get as close to exact as I can and being the first year of plastic fenders i think would be something different so I want them if possible. I really think the metal ones look better.

You can still be a memeber of these groups and not recieve any email period. Just look at the messages when you want and reply when you want.

Here is how to do it:

Go to your favorite Yahoo group and join, or if you have already joined log in.
Next go to the link that says edit membership or something like that.
Scroll down and you will find a question with the choices something like.
Individual email
Daily log
No email

Choose no email and you will not be sent anything. You can use the group when you want and do not have to put up with the spam ever.

Just trying to help. I have been a member of many egroups over the years and some get hit worse than others by spam.

Good luck and feel free to email me if you have questions on how to do this.

Penton Talk / Removing oxidation
November 20, 2002, 06:35:18 PM
I have never tried it on mag but I use phospheric acid on all types of oxidation. It is well know for rust but it works on all types. For mag stuff I follow suit and say try a small spot first.

Brand names of it are "Rust Cure", etc... made and sold to remove rust (which is oxidation of iron)

It is normally cheap to buy at the hardware store and well worth a try. Plus I am sure you have some rust somewhere as well:)

Penton Talk / Engine Blueprinting
November 07, 2002, 11:30:42 PM
I am not an expert but when one refers to "Blueprinting" a motor it is my understanding that they are going to completely disasemble the entire motor and put it back together making sure that each and every part including cases etc... match as closely to the original blueprint as possible. Engines come off the assembly line in many cases way off the original specs but they are within exceptable tolorences and therefor pass inspection and run fine for years to come. The German's as well as many other European countries have much tighter tolerences than we do here in the states and this is one reason they make such good stuff. There are other govenment standards in many parts of Europe that help in this as well such as steel quality, plastic quality, etc....

I sure hope I got this correct, like I said I am not an expert nor do I play on the internet:)

Penton Talk / Dough! here are the manuals
November 06, 2002, 07:45:49 PM
Looks good but it will take forever and a lot of space done as Jpeg's. I would recommend scanning them and then converting them to the PDF format and creating one large file for each manual. This way everyone on earth can print and see the pages as well as zoom in or out not to mention an number of other things. You can also use the one large PDF file like an electronic book that you can flip right to the page you want.

If you need more info on this let me know.

Penton Talk / Sachs Engine Number
November 06, 2002, 07:40:35 PM
The Germans would say it Sax but when they say it out loud    it sounds like Socks. Did that make any sense???

Just my theory anyway

Penton Talk / Sachs Engine Number
November 06, 2002, 12:24:55 AM
I was looking in the wrong spot all the time. My counter shaft sproket is hidden under the cover so I guess I still have at least an original cover whether or not it was changed who knows.

I don't like to sleep either I would rather ride:)

THanks guys I will get out in the garage right now and see if I still have the little rivited plaque.

Penton Talk / Sachs Engine Number
November 05, 2002, 09:48:31 PM
I am still at a loss for the engine number on my bike. I found numbers under the fins on the front of the cylinder by  the exhaust but I do not find any numbers on the ignition side where I thought they should be. What I found on the front of the cylinder is a combo of numbers and letters.

Any help on this is greatly appriciated. As posted above Larry is going to try to help me narrow it down to what the motor is and when it was made but I can't even find the right numbers.

Help a new guy out if you will.

Thanks in advance.

Penton Talk / seat stencil
October 27, 2002, 10:47:33 AM
I just bought a 72 Berkshire and one of the only things on it in bad shape is the original seat. Most of the seat is in fairly good shape but the rear where the logo's are is split and repaird and split again. I would be most interested in a seat cover as well as the stencil to repaint the logo.
Anyone ever thought of renting the logo stencil??? Maybe put up a deposit for the amount paid for the stencil and when it is returned in good condition you just take the rental fee out and return the rest of the deposit.

Just a thought.
