if i am not mistaken the spring colors are somewhat rated to the riders weight, i could be wrong but i think black is for light, green for medium and i think purple for heavy rider

Penton Talk / mounting rear wheel

Chris,
You must either have something bent or the wrong parts. I know your chain adjusters are wrong, they should be stamped metal, formed into a deep "U" shape, with a 8mm square nut welded on the inside, they straddle the end of the swingarm and use a bolt in the end for adjustments.

Is your 76 125, KTM or Sachs powered. I ask that because I have a MC5 (KTM) model here, I could find what the dimension of the span should be inside the swingarms.

The make-up of the rear wheel parts should be- a chain adjuster, brake backing plate, hub (wheel), spacer which is apx. 1 13/16" long, and the other chain adjuster.

Make sure you have the correct factory parts, if they're right, then maybe the swingarm got bent somehow. Measure that accurately, and let me know.

Penton Talk / lets get started
February 09, 2004, 08:08:07 AM
i am looking for some help with my 76 125,ktm motor with a bing carb.  once i get the thing started it runs like the champ that it is, how ever there inlies my problem.  starting this bike cold is getting to be quite a prosess, start by kicking and kicking and ect... so after a few deep breaths off the oxygen, pull out the spark plug, its soaked, replace, repeat, same outcome. so the third time i remove the soaked plug, pour about two cap fulls of gas directly into cylinder, put soaked plug back in and presto off she goes.it will spew nasty stuff out the exaust port for a while also. after the bike is warm it will start on the first kick everytime, hmmm. the carb is spotless inside and out,the float levels are correct, and the motor has a fresh top end.   HELP
