Penton Talk / V001 on ebay? Can it be true?
January 28, 2007, 12:57:39 AM
Well, in any case, three bids over $20,000.  This has to be some kind of record.  So much for private bidding in a case like this.  Wish we could have seen the results and now we wonder who really has the bike?  And I was going to stay up to see if the other side of the world was going to get in on the fun!

Have emailed a couple times about forks.  Is this email listed still good or the one listed with the POG?  Call if still available.  Thanks,  AL  920-893-3114

Penton Racing Talk / My First Penton

The bikes are all great, but alot of times its the guy in the shop that makes it.  We had a small engine shop(no bike shops in town) down the road from our place growing up that would help us keep our mini bikes running and swap tires for us and we would trade for lawn mowing or any other odd jobs they had.  You don't foget stuff like that and hope that someday you can do the same for others. Our shop helps the local 4-H club with the ATV program they have and you can see the same look in their eyes.  Just have to keep it going.

Penton Racing Talk / Ice racing penton

Speaking of ice riding and restoration, I found the pefect mix for anyone who wants to restore a bike back to showroom and still ride.  Get out on the ice!  Make sure the jetting is set and some screws in the tires and your ready to ride the bike you couldn't bring yourself to run in the mud and trees.  Its great grip and if you do fall down, the ice is soft enough that nothing gets tore up (bar ends, axles, shifters) And when your done, back to the shop and ice melts away just like giving her a bath.  Summer comes and shes ready for her good shoes and the show.

The 68 is moving along and gettting the crank done and some correct paint codes together.  Cleaning everything up to see what you have is the real project.  Will keep you posted.  AL

Ron and Dennis,
If you need a place to practice, we usually have a nice track on the river by Joshs house.  The boys from Hobans Racing (Harleys) are usually there keeping their road race skills honed on the dirt bikes.  Its about 8 above and we are making ice.  Al

Wasn't JP a husky distributor when the first Pentons (and even into the 70's) came out.  I am just going by a conversation at the Blue Ribbon Breakfast two years ago in Indy we had with him.  He knew they wouldn't like the idea.  I do not know the history like alot of the POG members.  I met John and have been getting pulled in ever since. Thanks for a place to study.[8)]

Didn't Mr. Penton have to smuggle a few of the first bikes into the country before thing were set up, making them his bikes AND the first?  What would you give for a peice of history?

How do you read the serial number on these bikes?  No one really knows how they came being parts bikes?  What was the production figure? Thanks

Cool!  Hard to explain the feeling to others (wife), but when you've been down this road, even this frame picture can get you going!  Thanks

Sad to hear this.  The whole family will tell you how good they are.  Pentons and Ktm's have always been ridden by people who let their riding talk for them, not the other way around.
