Wanted / For Sale / Piner For sale
April 16, 2005, 03:10:17 PM
Runs fine. I bought it and rode it around the neighborhood. A bit loud though. It's been sitting on my workbench for about two months now.....should start right up.

I'll give it to you for $900 if you come pick it up, plus you get all the parts and the manual.

I'd love to keep it, but I just don't have the time to put into it, and I'd rather see it go to someone who knows what the bike is and the history rather than some bonehead....just sentimental I guess....

I can give you a deal on an unfinished PE400 as well if you're interested ($700). Needs a pipe. I have the silencer, but bought the wrong pipe for it! I was going to use it in the SuperVintage class in FTR Hare Scrambles...it ain't a show bike, but it pulls like a tractor...

Okay, I'm really not sure. What's this bike worth?

Like I said, I've seen, what amounts to non-running junk, in the $800-$900 range. I think a grand is a fair price for a runner. Am I a bit over the top? I really don't have time for this bike, and that's a shame. I wish I did. That's why I'm offering it up to my fellow POGers.

I was planning on stripping it and powder coating the frame, having a friend do a new professional blue paint job, add new deacls, repaint the engine and pipe, polish up the aluminum and get the seat reupholstered. I already have new shocks for it. That's all I was going to do to it. Well, maybe new fenders or give them a light coat of white.

If I don't sell it, it'll wind up sitting in my garage for a while, and I don't want that to happen. It's been sitting for a while already when I found it, cleaned the carb and fired her up! You guys know they're meant to be ridden, but in addition to this, I have a PE400 (still needs to be finished too),a DR350, DR650, and a Triumph Speed Triple that all need to be ridden. I don't have time. I'm stretched too thin!

I'm not lookin' to screw anybody, I just want to give this Piner a good home...any takers (and no, I'm not gonna give her away...)

Oh, and I forgot to add...

It came with a set of forks, two clutch kits, two buckets of miscellaneous parts (levers, harnesses, nuts, bolts, adjusters, etc), plus a complete tranny, and a bottom end, and a head, plus the original manual, plus....

I'm still giddy! Wife doesn't understand, but she'll get over it...

Terry Dishroon I know you! And your farm. Why'd you kick Kavula up to Ohio? It was because of the dancing girls, wasn't it!

The dual sport idea you guys have mentioned is...well...at least here in Florida, virtually undoable. How do I know. I already promote three dual sports here in state and two out of state. Terry you know our group, WDSRC/DixieDualSport. Visit our website at //www.dixiedualsport.com We've only grown to 1600 members in the southeast. I'm also in the middle of completeing a coast to coast (florida) dual sport route and a coast to coast road route for Bike Week next year.

Anyway, back on task. Reason being is all the hoops that we must jump through with forest service here to get it done. It'll be easier just formulateing a get together and trail ride, under the radar, but legal within forestry guidelines, which is doable. I just need to make time to get it done.

I also know a couple of guys that have Pentons and race hare scrambles with them. I don't wanna race. I just wanna ride through the woods at a liesuely pace without getting run over...

We'll get a get-together happening, count on it, and if it's successful, watchout, we may have a regional Southeastern POG-athon!

Penton Talk / Joining POG
February 20, 2004, 10:23:33 PM
I just joined at the beginning of the month, so I understand I may be rushing it. I run a club as well and we do new memberships on a monthly basis. As long as ya'll haven't forgotten me, I'm good with that. No worries.

I was just curious as to what comes with membership. I never saw a list of what a member gets, but I joined anyway. Why? because this is the only place that's keeping the history of the Big P alive and is worthy of my membership fee!

Thanks for replying. I appreciate it.

Penton Talk / Penton/KTM loyality ?
February 17, 2004, 08:32:03 PM
I came about this backwards it seems. I've owned KTMs for the past 12 years and finally decided to go history shopping. I swear by them, they're the best out-of-the-box woods bikes out there. Sure they're more pricy than the japanese, but you get an already hopped up bike for the dollars. You'll spend more  upgrading your "other brand" bike. But once again, it depends on what one wants out of the motorcycle, what one expects, and what one is emotionally drawn to. You gotta admit it. Anyone that gets into any type of vintage purchase, either for retoration, riding or racing, is doing it with a vehicle that actually means something to them. Either they had one years ago and let her slip away, or maybe had always wanted one and now able to put the time and money into re-living a bit of their past. That's the beauty of it.

Like I said, mine went backwards. I went from modern KTM, to finally realizing my Penton/KTM supressed emotions, had a pocket of cash when I stumbled on my MC5, and now I spend more time sitting in my garage just looking at it. Damn fine piece of art work. And orange to boot!

Now to just find that Blue Jackpiner I always wanted....
