First, what is the purpose of the fiber bushing (or sleeve) installed in the throat of Bing carbs? Is it necessary? I have a 32mm that is minus this part...Question 2 is why I ask.

Second, I'm about to start a 77 125 GS6 project and thought about using this Bing 32mm carb. Any reason why it might not perform well with this motor? I might add the motor is a fresh rebuid and bored 60 over stock.

Thanks as always!

The bushing makes the seal better and less chance of an air leak at the intake.  The 32mm Bing will work good on the GS 125 but a Lectron will give you better running and less hassles on that bike in my opinion.

Thanks for the input Larry. I've always respected your opinion.

Actually, the bike had a Lectron on it when I got it but it was totally trashed! I mean the body cracked and repaired with JB Weld...etc, and I happened to have a decent 32 Bing laying around.

If I do decide to go with the Lectron, what size would you recommend? And would you go with the Powerjet or without?

Thanks for the confidence on my opinion but there are so many fantastic experts on this board that eclipse my knowledge I am always humbled.

I think would go with the Powerjet but as far as size and which metering rod talk to Gary Ellis and Ted Landers.  My memory on numbers is just so so.  Ted can hook you up with parts or a new Lectron.

Steve,

For your information, you can get new bowls for the Electron.  The old bowls do not like alcohol.  I beleive Speedy may have replacement bowls.

Steve,
I have a 77 repair manual that shows a 34 mm Bing as stock.
Jetting listed is
enduro    MC
170       180 main jet
322       322 needle jet
50        50  pilot jet
2 nd from the top needle position
230       230  slide or throttle valve
Larry is right , go with the Lectron if you can . It will make the bike a lot easier to ride.
Here is a blow up of the Lectron. Which parts are cracked?

Thanks John...I'll dig out the carb and get back with you but I seem to remember a threaded corner was broken and a sloppy repair was made.

How much difference is there engine wise between a 76-77 125 MC5 engine and a 77 125 GS6 engine?
