Jackpiner fuel hose routing:

Just curious if this fuel setup sounds correct? Two petcocks go to a tee, then a single hose to a nipple on the right side of the Bing carb, just above the float bowl. The left nipple has a breather tube on it, the nipple in front of that has a plug cap on it. I purchased this cream puff from Bettencourt's auction in November, it had been sitting in a warehouse for 30 years. Thank you, David.

Yea that sounds about right. The plug cap is the tickler plunger for flooding the carb for cold starting.

I have seen them set up with each petcock feeding a nipple, the vent is on the capped nipple in front of the tickler. Any other 'Piner owners have this setup, Paul? Thanks.

   Pretty much every original Penton I have seen has the fuel lines routed to a "T" with the single line connecting to the carb, just as you described.

   I am working on detailing an early original Piner these winter nights, it has the Amal carb on it.   The one item that has surprised me is that it has the early style greenish/gray cables on it. For some reason I though it would have black cables on it.
It has frame serial # 7-21159474     Engine serial # 2-5202186

Well I brought the 'Piner into the heated shop in order to look at it today, and get some numbers. The frame number is 7-30261818. I couldn't find an engine serno, shouldn't it be located on the right side above the motoplat cover? Thanks!

That is where the engine # should be. It is stamped in and could be barely visible is there is a build up of paint, since it is a hand stamping. It should be above the ignition cover just behind the RH front engine mount bolt boss under the cylinder fins. It may require a closer look to see clearly. Mike

Dave, you might also want to run a 1/4" fuel filter in the line somewhere.  This will keep the pilot jet from getting clogged up every ride.  The new ethanol gas seems to  start dissolving   fiberglass tanks, within hours.

Ray I got the fuel system fairly straightened out Saturday, and installed a 1/4" stone filter and ran up the 'Piner. I knew it was lean and the pilot jet was clogged. Torch tip cleaners are a must for these tiny jets. Anyway I got it up to operating temp and she ran with the choke open and started racing slightly. I turned down the slide screw to an acceptable rpm and pinpointed the gumout straw at the manifold base, instant idle change, and same with the carb to manifold.

I removed both the carb and manifold, made a new base gasket, trued up the manifold (out of check .010") and placed a nice 'O' ring in the carb. Starts 1st kick, no leaks now.

I searched the site quite a bit about the fiberglas tanks and fuel. I'm burning 100LL from the little airport near my house, only $4.47/gal. It's a trade off, so I drive a Corolla.
