Wanted: 250 Penton

I have a friend who is wanting a '74 or '75 Hare Scrambler, or a '76 Cross Country. He's wanting to race, so he wants to buy a very good, complete running bike that he doesn't have to work on.

hey gary, whats the timing that he needs this? i have a motor done and the frame sandblasted, ready to paint. i should have it done probably mid-march.   chi jer

He said that if he hasn't found anything until then, than he might be interested in your bike.

I wanted to be more specific about what my friend is looking for. He wants a bike that is AHRMA Vintage legal machine, so he wants either a '74 or '75 model, or a '76 "Cross Country" model (the Cross Country model is basically the same frame as the 74½ & 75 models, but the forks are longer travel, so they will have to be either replaced or modified to meet the 7" AHRMA travel limitations). The MC5's and GS6's are Post-Vintage bikes, and are not legal for racing in AHRMA Vintage classes.

I stated that he wants a "running bike that he doesn't have to work on it", but what I should have said is that he wants a bike that has a good motor that doesn't need rebuilt or gone through, and he doesn't want to have to do a whole lot of work on the chassis to get it ready to race. He'd like a bike that is in pretty nice condition, but it doesn't have to be a show piece.

He would rather have one in Motocross trim, but if all he can find is an Enduro model, he has no problem with converting it over to a Motocrosser.

hey gary. i'll stay in touch. the motor is done/ new bearings, seals, gaskets piston/bore. new swingarm bearings. forks will be flushed/ filled/new seals. 74 1/2 vintage legal. i could have it done sooner but leaving for hawaii next tues.  [8D]    chi jer

Hello,  Jerry is very knowledgeable with the KTM brand of Pentons.  He does quality work on his own bikes, and others.   It sounds like Jerry has done most of the important, challenging, mechanical work to this 74 1/2 KTM.  He can set you up with the right fork oil and tank size, likely.
