Penton GS6 400cc on Ebay

Wow I was shocked to see that clean , original , low mileage GS6 sell for short money on ebay
I thought for sure the bike would top the 3K mark being last year and original and low mileage. Guess I was wrong.

Plenty of bikes on the market and many collectors have full garages. Folks that are into these bikes are not getting any younger. After a good injury or illness some guys hang up their helmet.

Out of all the bikes in my collection I ride my Hodaka 90 and Bultaco Alpina the most. I tend to leave the Husky 500 in the shed

Larry,
  I agree that the bike was worth more money.  It is so rare to find one in this condition.  I have no room for this particular bike since I like the Sachs powered bikes, but if I was looking for a 400 would have bought the bike.

Personally I like the look of the 78 GS6 better, but it is unfortunate not to bear the name of Penton as it is a direct influence of Johns vision. I have one of both the 77 & 78 250 versions once I get them rebuilt/restored to their proper glory. Mike

Ron what is the difference in the 400cc and the 250cc gs6

AS far as I know, the engine and carb size, overall weight difference and maybe stiffer spring rates to compensate for the increased weight. I think everything else is the same between the 400 and 250, even the pipe with the possible exception of variations on the silencer, even on both the 250 and 400 models. I have seen the large shrouded and baloney tip silencer used on both size bikes. Mike

what was the reason for a 400 over the 400

I assume you meant 400 over 250. The 400 was introduced in late 74/early 75 in the Mint 400 and was actually 360cc. The 400 was a very torquey powerplant with an agressive powerband with a strong hit when on the pipe, so like any larger engine, more overall power was the goal, and also to be more competetive in the open class. Some 400 engines have additional bolted on flywheel weights added and in 1978 the engine was detuned slightly for a more broad tractable power range. Most 400 owners suggest using the larger flywheel if not already equiped to smooth out the powerband. Mike
