I had traded my 1977 Penton mc5 250 for his 1981 250 enduro. (It has a plate on it & I'm going supermoto with it). He tells me that this model was Euro only & never imported to the U.S. and came with a MX kit (plastic, sprokets, etc)

Anybody know anything about this?

Mike,

The GS (enduro)models were the same in the US as in Europe based on my 1981 KTM manual.  The GS and MC were the same frame.  The GS has a rear frame extension which is removable.

The motors were the same with the possible exception of the Motoplat.  The GS had a generator system for lights while the MC did not.  My experience is that a lot of MC's had the same Motoplat as the GS models.

Also, the MC's may have been a 5 speed tranny, while the GS was a 6 speed.  Many, if not all MC's came through with 6 speed tranny.  The gear ratios were identical for the top 5 gears in each model.

Stock sprockets were different; the stock MC was 13 countershaft, and 57 rear sprocket, while the GS was 15 & 48.

I hope this helps you.

Yep , sure does. But I made a slight mistake, it's an 1982 model.
